It's sad that our teams don't dominate the Big South. We have more money in the athletic budget than any the other schools, we pay the coaches bigger salaries, we have better facilities, we have our own sports network, LFSN, and we have jets that our coaches can hope on and fly to anywhere to recruit on the spur of the moment. Someone please tell me why we are stuck in the middle of the pack in almost all our major sports year after year? I heard for several years of moving up to a FBS conference, but no dice. How can Coastal move up and we are stuck in mediocrity? I can't take the big talk of a new indoor football practice field and we can't go to the playoffs but once in 43 years.

Was that therapeutic?

I am liking the fact that we have real competition for the first time in several years. It should make training camp this summer really engaging.

YF, you should see a counselor for whatever psychological nonsense youre going through...

Sly, I agree. This will be very interesting to see when Calvert joins the battle in July-August

I mean, is this really necessary? BJ, can you not respond like this anymore? It's over the top and just an attention grab. I would have sent a PM, but it's annoying seeing a lot of people on this board make statements similar to this. I realize it's a message board, so it's a big ask, but can we be above this stuff? Rant over.

I'm pulling for Masha to be the starter. Hoping he can take control and develop his passing to be a serious offensive weapon - thinking what Boykin is for TCU - I think he can be that good on our level. Excited to see how the next 4 months unfold.

Just ran into this clip on the LibertyFootball twitter account

Masha running a 4.5 40.
Yeah, I think we we can safely say we upgraded athletically at QB.

:football Now that Buck Shot is on campus, and we are hearing good reports of his talent, it seems the Competition has narrowed a bit. I think that no matter how talented or developed he is, Masha will start vs Tech and Jacksonville, but if its half time of the Jacksonville game and we are trailing, I will be very interested to see if Buck Shot comes out without the clip board. It appears that most on the board are predicting that Buck Shot will start half of the games this season at minimum. BTW, it is very fun for my favorite football team to have a QB named Buck Shot. :football

I highly doubt we will be trailing against Jacksonville...and I think just about everyone is the same way...now the Jacksonville State game is another matter

I do agree that if we are going to see a change in the shotgun it will be fairly early on in the season...When Josh took over full time it was I think game 3 vs. Montana

Maybe I am thinking Coach Dailey won't be running a ton of stretch handoffs and plays under center with whoever our QB will be

BJ I thinkyou backed yourself into a very good point. Changing QBs in this situation, more than likely, will mean a change of offensive system. We are hearing of a very simplified offense that will feature Masha's legs. If Buckshot takes over, you'd think we would change it up a bit and feature a massive arm and not so much the wheels.

With that being said, I change my prediction or opinion, to Masha will start the first four games of the season. He has proven he wont be wretched, and if we are going to make a change, I could see us making the change after the 4 game non conference schedule, headed into the bye week. Giving the coaches more time to install a system more friendly to Calvert's abilities.

I'm still confused by people on here questioning Masha's talent/capabilities.

Player Comp-Att-INT YDS TDS
R-So BROWN, Mike 17-22-0 338 4 vs. St. Francis W 52-7
R-So BROWN, Mike 24-38-3 276 2 vs. Ball State W 27-23
R-Fr MASHA, Stephon 21-32-3 238 4 vs. Chuck South L 36-38
R-Fr MASHA, Stephon 20-33-1 285 1 vs. #1/2 CCU W 15-14

I guarantee there will be people who will call for Masha to be pulled if he has 3+ turnovers against VT come Sept 3. Let me remind you of Mike Brown vs. NC State
R-Jr BROWN, Mike 22-39-3 279 1 + 4 fumbles and 3 lost

I am pumped we have talented Fr coming in this summer. The QB position is going to be stout for a while as long as these guys don't transfer out.

However, I have all the confidence in the world in Masha until he proves us wrong. That won't happen unless the wheels come undone against the likes of Jacksonville, JSU, SMU and RMU. Until then, we have a R-Jr Captain QB. The fact he was named a Captain speaks volumes of his talent and ability to make those around him better.

With that said, I can't wait to see what Masha can do in Blacksburg in 6.5 weeks.

Agreed PH...Calvert would have to be light years better head to head come the start of practice in two weeks to be the starter in Blacksburg

Its less about Masha, and more about the hype of Buckshot. Just admit how fun it is to talk about a guy called Buckshot, as QB of our favorite team.

I get the love affair over a 3-Star rated QB out of HS. It's exciting, but I don't get all giddy over the "Buckshot" part. Meh.

The point I was making was Masha has shown us he can be/is comparable to Mike Brown at this stage of their careers. Everyone drooled over MB (rightfully so, incredibly talented), so there should be way more hype around Masha than Calvert right now.

I think all the talk and hype around Calvert makes Masha more hungry to compete and perform. If he can handle the added pressure and play decent the first 3 games, then I say he is the man for the rest of the season.
