I know you're being sarcastic and attempting to make fun of me, but Jeff generally doesn't miss football games. Most ADs around the country don't miss football games. I don't know his reason for not being there, but it's odd that he wasn't.

Josh threw more teammates under the bus:
“That’s pretty much the story of the season — we haven’t been able to run at all — and defenses are just sitting back and playing coverage on us,” Woodrum said. “It’s just a lack of execution more so on the blocking.”

I'm honestly asking. I'm intrigued on where people are on the spectrum.
Yeah. I think that's a fair assessment I think. He's proven he can get a team to the playoffs and can win a game, because he has. This year was a cluster. It should t have been but it was and he's not the only coach and this is not the only team who has had that happen to them.
So I say 2 years.

To team up with Purple, Coach Gill has done nothing to deserve being fired. For one this season is not over, we still have a great opportunity in front of us to knock off a top 5 team in Coastal. And for the record I hope we give them the biggest butt-whooping they have ever received! However, this season has been a major disappointment. I echo what has already been said as this team was filled with a ton of talent and possibly a few men who may get the chance to play on sundays. Yet, we will either finish with a losing record or a winning record and of course NO PLAYOFFS.

Furthermore, some of us on this board have this idea that our Liberty University Flames should be like Alabama and be in contention for the national championship every year or at the least making a deep playoff run. I for one do think we are at a point in the history of the program where we should be winning the Big South and making it to the playoffs every year. But to my point we are not even in the same conversation as Alabama. We don't have the history, nor the manufacturing of talent year in and year out like they do for numerous reasons. So, I think we (myself included) need to chill at times when we put unrealistic expectations year in and year out for our beloved Flames. Now, do I think we are headed in the right direction even with this season of disappointment. . . yes. I think changes need to be made in certain coaching positions, but Gill has recruited some high quality players and I do believe in Him for the future regardless of the track record that is a small sample size. You can't judge the stint at Kansas as evidence against him either. He was set up for failure there. I mean the great Charlie Weis couldn't even win more than 3 games there. All this to say, disappointed is my honest reaction to this season, but brighter and more fruitful days are ahead starting with next season for our flames.

I don't expect us to be Alabama and in the top four every year, but I think it's realistic to expect us to be a top 25 team three out of four years. We've only done that once in the past four years. I'm afraid that's our new normal.

Even though there is no joy in Gillville, I'm looking forward to next year. We'll have 8-9 returning starters on D, we'll get back Holder, Passmore and Smith from injuries to man the OL in addition to Duff who redshirted this year, we'll have Denver Daniels and Frankie Hixon also redhirts at RB with Macon, a more mobile QB (Masha, Calvert, et al) and all the receivers except Petey back. We will probably ditch the pro offense which is tailored to Woodrum's abilities and open things up more. :D The cup is half full

I don't see it getting much better. He has madever several Mike London like coaching moves. He has been unable or unwilling to do what it takes to improve our special teams play for 4 years!! Frankly I think our position coaches are better than our coordinators. The worst part is he doesn't even seem to care. There's no sense of urgency in his interviews. Listen to toman and even listen to Ritchie last night. They keep it real and acknowledge bad performances when they happen. They understand the expectation. It's disgusting to hear Paul rutligiano say things like "this just shows the parody in this league. Cmon man. I would only give him one year but we're so soft he wont be forced to do anything.

I find Paul Rutigliano painful to listen to
'Sense of Urgency' is a bunch of gobley gook. It's just the mans personality. His demeanor is his demeanor. That doesn't mean he doesn't care. Good grief. Coaches are people and we all have different personalities

I kinda look at it a bit differently on the last two:

Disappointing season: fail to make the playofs
Bad season: fail to make the playoffs and finish more than one game under .500
Horrible season: 3 games or fewer

To be frank I could do a better job than PR, God bless the man...
I also agree that every coach is different. Im sorry if he isn't a "hellire and brimstone" coach like some would prefer.

I don't know what to think about a coaching change, but I do wonder what it is that allows two programs with fewer resources (Coastal Carolina and CSU) to advance much further on the field than us in just a few years after bringing in new coaches. No matter how you evaluate our performance, you can't deny the impressive achievements of coaches Chadwell and Moglia.

This season is officially a wrap. Gill needs to do a deep evaluation of his starters and coaching staff. The best performing group has been the defensive line due to coaches Singletary, and Lewellyn. The worst performers has been the offensive play overall (Stamn), quarterback (Dailey) and linebackers (Bookbinder). Alpha Jalloh is a huge liability at the safety position, and consistently displays that he has no knowledge of what his assignment is on the field. With all the $$$$ diverted to football the results should be more positive. Gill needs to replace/ demote Bookbinder, Stamm, Dailey and hire seasoned coaches that can bring experience and value to the team such as:
Danny Barrett – Current Interim HC at UCF and former QB coach under T. Gill at U of Buffalo. Developed former NFL quarterback Drew Willy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Barrett

Mike Canales - Current Interim HC and OC at North Texas. Developed Phillip Rivers at NC State

E. J. Junior –13 year former NFL linebacker an ordained minister and current defensive coach at Delaware State University.

Two out of the three will be looking for a job at the end of the year. I hope Gill will step up and capitalize on the plethora of knowledgeable coaches that will be available this season, and cut ties with the non-performers he currently has on the payroll.

I have no clue what you are getting at.

Again, brighter days are not on the horizon. And we are definitely not heading in the right direction.

Maybe they used a better search firm to find their coach.

Look who crawled out from his bridge with the loss...

As for the coach hire...clearly they had a differing philosophy in their hiring process compared to ours...

SuperJon wrote:Dude. I didn't get what I wanted. I wanted Turner Gill to be hired and for us to take the next step as a program. That hasn't happened. We've actually taken a step back, even with the playoff appearance.

You love stats, so take a look at this:

The teams we have beaten this year are a combined 13-32 against Division I opponents. Our "tough schedule" with "big wins" don't look that tough or big when put in context.

The teams we have lost to are a combined 23-24 against Division I opponents. Take CSU and WVU out of there because they were supposed to beat us, and three of our losses are to teams with a combined record of 10-19.

Prior to this year we had lost to CSU twice in the entire history of our program. Under Gill we have lost to CSU twice in as many years.

I want what's best for Liberty University and Liberty Football. Four years ago I thought that was Turner Gill (and was one of the guys pushing for us to hire him) but it's beyond obvious that it's not.

I've questioned if Gill was the guy for the future in the past but I'm firmly in the open that we need to get rid of him as soon as Friday. There's nothing in his history at other schools nor his recent history at Liberty that says we're anything better than lightning in a bottle once every four years.

Now, for my closing arguments, I will refer you to the team that beat us today: Charleston Southern. Jamey Chadwell came in to a program in much worse shape than Liberty with a tenth of the resources and in less time has CSU ranked in the top ten in the country and outright undefeated champions of the Big South (something that hasn't happened since 2007).

Moglia had worse and has done better.
Chadwell had worse and has done better.

At what point do we admit we made a mistake, cut bait, and move on?
This is crazy gill is not the reason we are losing games, it's the execution by your 4 yr starter 3 yr captain, when it's not the 6 and 13 show the team is good but when u put urself before team this is what you get. Parker was open countless times but 6 has to throw to 13. Ther were multiple ppl open but again 6 throws to 13. This is all 6. Look what happen in 2nd half the original effort to get Parker the ball, but that went out the window quick n back to the 6 n 13 show. I guess when u know scouts are looking it's what u do.
The story has gotten old to JW, maybe the fact he has been here 4 yrs has worn thin, maybe it's time for new blood under center someone with no real dog in the fight and will just hit the open guy

And there lies the biggest reason we will be better next year 6 won't be under center like I said earlier, he has done his time and it's time for a change.

What YOU expect n what is reality is two totally different things. At the end of the day, and with all the $$$ in the world we still hv to get players, and remember it takes a certain type kid to come to LU. Other kids on other teams are just as talented as LU, whether you want to down them or not based on their facilities or what not doesn't matter, what our supposed budget is doesn't matter. As you can see $$$ don't buy you everything. It takes kids and coaching and buying into the system. I tell my team this all the time, all the athleticism in the world won't beat a team that executes and plays assignment football. Has to be I >me
