I agree with you on that one....any news on when the next phase of the Williams Stadium expansion will be? If we continue to have crowds like at this last game we're gonna need the extra seating. I had no problems sitting on the hill this last week but I know if I am ever able to bring my parents or inlaws to a game we will have to get there super early to make sure we can get seats. Plus I just can't wait to see the finished product.

There usually is not a problem with seating on the baptist side. That Montana game was kind of an exception (pretty sure we beat the attendance record by about 2k). If Liberty would to expand now, it would leave room for a lot of empty seats which looks worse, IMO, than just a two sided stadium.

However, I tend to agree that connecting the two sides makes it look so much better. We just aren't there yet attendance wise. Who knows, though. Maybe a stadium expansion itself would bring curious people in.

Sounds fishy.

As for future attendance . Key to attendance is bring good opponents to Williams Stadium. The "bigger the name" the more fans show.

I was surprised at how many Montana fans showed up. This speaks well for their program. I have seen schools much closer to Lynchburg bring barely any fans.

Yes, and I've thought from the beginning it was going to be tough to go 4-0 in that stretch. So far so good! 1-0. Lets keep that train rolling!

Its not about bringing good opponents, its about those opponents WANTING to play us in Lynchburg. We have 6 home games to set over the next three seasons (1 in 2016, 2 in 2017, 3 in 2018 with the possibility of a 4th that year). The question is can we get the kind of teams that can move the turnstile. Remember, before our success last year, a game in Lynchburg wasn't exactly a meter mover for a lot of 1-AA/FCS programs, especially from the "power" conferences. Not to mention, that team has to have a mutual opening that weekend (or a financially feasible out in their contract). If we can build on things this year, maybe that will become easier because teams will see Liberty as a quality win on their schedule finally.

what are the chances of playing someone like Penn State, I mean I know they wont come here but, what level of needle moving are you going to get to come to Williams. Im thinking it would never be a P5 but of Gof5 type school on like a 2 for 1 maybe.

I recall a few years back, Alabama played at Duke. If Duke could get Bama to come to Durham, I think we could get someone to visit Lynchburg. Heck I believe Virginia Tech has a trip scheduled to ODU. Stranger things have happened when it comes to scheduling.

I actually agree with the ol ballcoach. If we can get to FBS and perform decently well we can get a power 5 team hear on a semi regular basis. We might be giving up a 2 for 1 for a while but it would be worth it. We wouldn't really want the Bama's of the world here anyways (at first) more like the Marylands and Kentuckys of the world.

There were a lot of reasons that Bama went to play Duke. Plus the fact that Duke is in a 'Power' FBS conference makes any comparison ill advised. Had they played someone like Richmond or Gardner-Webb then we could compare

On a side note we were within minutes of playing Alabama several years ago. It's why you close the deal when it's there. No coffee was had in the Athletic offices that day

Are Richmond and Gardner-Webb FBS?

I'm referring to FCS power conferences. Im glad to see Indiana State coming in 17, but schools like Delaware, Villanova, Furman, Wofford, etc don't return our calls (I'm guessing that JB calls them anyway)

That game happened for a multitude of reasons. One being that Cutcliffe has connections to Alabama's program. Another being that Duke was turning their program around at the moment, and it presented Alabama with a game that they would probably win but could still test themselves. And lastly, Duke brought in extra bleachers just to accommodate all of the Bama fans. That move alone gave them free press for about a week.

I will also say that it is going to be tough for Liberty to ever land a school of that size because of our alcohol policies.

Flames hope to avoid letdown against MVFC foe again

Damien Sordelett

It was around this point last season when Liberty was coming off an impressive home victory over a ranked team. The Flames were feeling good about going on the road to face a Missouri Valley Football Conference team and continuing their winning ways.

Then reality hit. A loss to Indiana State crushed that early-season momentum Liberty had and forced the Flames to regroup. That is something they want to avoid this weekend.

Among the nuggets in Damien's latest offering is news that the Georgia State kick will in fact be 3:30pm as expected. It would have been nice to have that piece of information confirmed last week so I could have possibly made the trip.

I'm not saying that we could get Alabama or Notre Dame right away, but we would get some quality FBS teams in Lynchburg as soon as we moved to the FBS.

Maybe we could schedule an FBS powerhouse like Marshall to come here. It's only a 5 hour drive, and it would give the Herd a chance to get out of WV. And there a ton of Marshall alumni in VA and NC, where the jobs are.

Then you obviously have never been to any SEC, Pac 12, Big 10, Big 12 or ACC game.

Just because you don't drink, and just because you don't want the alcohol at the games doesn't mean that others agree with you. Schools like Wake Forest, Marshall, South Alabama will come in to Lynchburg just because they'll need someone to play. But when you start talking about powerhouses, or even smaller programs like UNC or Maryland, they aren't coming in here with our alcohol restrictions.

UNC and UVA would. Might be 2 for 1 deals, but they would come.

Notre Dame? You realize what Catholics do in their free time...right?

You can, and most do, drink on TCU's campus. And while Baylor may have slightly stricter rules than TCU, I don't believe they are enforced.

And BYU may come here once or twice, but we aren't getting them year after year.

Thus, if we go FBS, we'll be stuck with small programs who need an extra game. Hello, UNC-Charlotte, New Mexico State and Kent State.
