The one that was blocked was kicked so low that it was blocked on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage. He missed from 30, 35 and 37. Inexcuseable. You can't miss all three.

The extra point block was all the o-line's fault.

It was 10 points.

That was as much Wynton's fault as Brock's. Wynton should've put his hands out or dove or something. On one of them it was clear he wasn't running full speed.
manger wrote:we need a new kicker, which i think rocco will go out and get, a 1A transfer at QB, which i think we can get, and some more 1A linemen, which i think we can get. look at what coach rocco has recruited here in about 6 months or so. imagine what he can do in a entire year of recruiting. should be good to see this years recruiting class and transfers.
That's a cop-out. We have a good quarterback, his name is Zach Terrell. The linemen need to just do their job.

Ok, now time for my rant.

Zach Terrell needs to be our full time quarterback. We moved the ball much better with him today.

Everyone at the game today heard me say this, and I'm putting it in print. I'll even put it in caps. WE HAVE A GOOD KICKER ON THE ROSTER. HIS NAME IS BROCK SMITH. LET HIM CONCENTRATE ON KICKING AND WE HAVE SOLVED BOTH OF OUR PROBLEMS.

Kicking it on 4th and 1 in the first quarter was flat out stupid.

In the fourth quarter, it was 3rd and 5 and we let Brock overthrow Wynton and then kicked it. Hand the ball off to Zach or Lawrence twice, get the five yards for a first time, and keep driving for a touchdown.

Wynton Jackson, please, for the life of me, show some effort on those deep balls. His arms were tucked by his sides and he didn't even reach out for either one of those. Show some effort and dive or something. There's 12,000 people in the stands who would dive if they had your talent.

On the drive in the first half where we had 3rd and 21 and ran the ball we should've thrown it up to Darnell or Wynton in the end zone at least once. It worked against Wake twice and we don't even try it against W&M? That's just dumb.

On a side note, they need to chill the crap out on Student Flames Club seating. When the game started, there were maybe 2 or 3 rows full of SFC members with another 6-7 empty. The students filled those spaces in (which they should) and then were told by the ROTC and LUPD that if they didn't move back they were going to be kicked out of the game. If this "booster club" (because that's all it is) can't get their members to the game before the game kicks off then they don't deserve reserved seating. The true fans get there before kickoff.

If we don't solve the kicker and quarterback situation we don't go .500 this year.

i agree about zach being the qb... it seems like rocco doesn't want him throwing the ball more than 5 yards. and yea brock should be at kicker.

SJ ... not excusing it, but when your quarterback overthrows you time after time after time after time after time after time, as has been the case this year, I think maybe Wynton realizes which passes he can and can't get to.

Can't attest to the Brock as kicker thing, but the former HS soccer walkon route worked for Boston College on Thursday.

Source: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=262850103
BOSTON (AP) -- Boston College walk-on Steve Aponavicius never showed a hint of hardship against Virginia Tech, delivering a perfect kicking performance in his football debut.

It was only after the game that the left-footed soccer convert allowed his aw-shucks inexperience to show through.

"All of it was fun. Every minute of it," he said Thursday night after making two field goals and two extra points to lead Boston College to a 22-3 victory over Virginia Tech. "I just wanted to go out and enjoy it."

Overdressed for the postgame news conference in a coat and tie, the fresh-faced kicker followed his breakout performance by cracking up his teammates and the assembled reporters. Asked if Aponavicius needed a primer in the usually staid postgame routine, safety Ryan Glasper said, "He's just having fun."

"He's unique," Glasper said. "We talked to him all week about how everyone's given an opportunity. This was his opportunity. We had the confidence in him to do the job."

The BC defense forced four turnovers to send the Hokies to their second consecutive loss. Boston College (5-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) is a North Carolina State desperation pass away from being unbeaten.

Virginia Tech (4-2, 2-2) has lost consecutive games since rising to No. 11 in The Associated Press Top 25. The Hokies also fell to 12-2 in Thursday night games on ESPN; both losses were to BC -- one in Blacksburg, one in Chestnut Hill -- 11 years apart.

"It's a big win on Thursday night against a program that's owned Thursday night," BC coach Tom O'Brien said.

Matt Ryan was 16-for-29 for 174 yards and two touchdowns despite limping through much of the second half on a previously injured ankle. Kevin Challenger caught two touchdown passes and freshman Alex Albright contributed to two turnovers, tipping a pass that was intercepted and recovering a fumble.

Virginia Tech's Sean Glennon completed 23 of 34 passes with two interceptions. The Hokies were held to 21 yards in the second half.

"It's frustrating," Glennon said. "You think you played all right. Then I look at the stat sheet and you see two interceptions and a fumble."

BC, which lost to N.C. State on Sept. 23 on a 34-yard touchdown pass with 8.5 seconds left, plays Florida State in 10 days. Virginia Tech will play Southern Miss.

Called "Sid Vicious" by teammates and coaches who can't pronounce his name (it's AH'-pah-nah-VIH'-chis), Aponavicius played soccer in high school and was discovered in Alumni Stadium on the first day of classes his freshman year fooling around with a borrowed football.

He was elevated to starter when Ryan Ohliger was suspended following a fight outside a Boston bar. Ohliger has apologized and said he was defending himself from students who heckled him over his kicking struggles; he missed three extra points in a two-week span this season.

Aponavicius' biggest struggle -- not counting figuring out how to strap on shoulder pads -- was with kickoffs. Although he boomed the opener to the 3, later efforts were between the 10 and 20 before receiver Brandon Robinson kicked off -- out of bounds-- in the fourth.

But Aponavicius made two PATs and field goals from 36 and 20 yards out, getting mobbed by his teammates each time and cheered by a crowd that included Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie.

Towson was going to give Brock a full ride as a kicker.

Also, from an observational standpoint, it seems like a case of having one quarterback who is on paper (or practice) statistically more effective, and one that maybe more effective in gameday situations.

It is a tough call...and it must be frustrating for the current QB to know he has the talent to deliver the goods, but gameday becomes like kryptonite...

Brock is very frustrated. He said it after the game. After the interception no one told him anything until he was told to go back in on the 3rd and 6th.

Brock as a kicker would appear to be a demotion of some sort but maybe deservedly so considering his inconsistentcy at QB. I guess we just have to work with what we have at QB and if Zach is the man then so be it. If he doesn't work out then go out and get a 1A transfere.

there needs to be serious decisions made in the next 48 hrs

Period

and in all fairness- #9 Elijah (?) for W/M is flat out rugged. His O line really opened some nice holes for him in the 1st half- which we seemed to close better in the 2nd- but the kid has game.

Kudos to him

The kicker's our most needed position right now. It wouldn't be a demotion. If he can be consistent on field goals and extra points it would take so much pressure off of the offense.

Not to mention we'd be able to run the best fake punt/fake field goal in the nation. Teams could never do an all out kick block with Brock back there because of the threat to pass.

[ Perhaps the worst call of the game was kicking a field goal on 4th and 5 in the fourth quarter. AMEN!! Had better odds running or throwing for the 1st down than kicking a FG. I thought surely we must be going for a fake. Especially after last years episode at Homecoming against VMI

absolutely embarrasing way to lose the game  :x Our kicking sucks and couldn't make a pass when it mattered the most. Defense was good. But this is just disgusting and i was pretty much infuriated after the loss but didn't show it in public.

We left ten points on the board. Three field goals and an extra point.

We still would've won 24-21 had we made our kicks and you scored there.

W&M doesn't get any credit for the 2 blocks?

You get credit for the blocked field goal, not the extra point.

You're right, it would've been 23-14 if we made all of our stuff. Had you guys scored instead of the INT, and we made all of the ones besides that one blocked FG, you would've won 21-20.

I don't even think W&M should get credit for the blocked FG. The angle the ball came off the foot was terrible. It almost hit a lineman's helmet.
