Let me say this first: this is jumping the gun. I highly doubt that anything major will change this upcoming offseason. But lets play along....

1. Why would you intentionally limit yourself? There were a few NFL coaches and TONS of D-I coaches who were interested last time. It would be very unwise to go with a D-II (let alone D-III) coach unless it was one of the absolute best HCs at those levels.

2. The main thing is to find the best football coach that is fully committed to the university's standards and goals. And there are plenty of great coaches that would fit LU out there.

We have all the money as a program we could ever need, yet.... Still no playoffs. So answer me this oh red tinted spectacled one, how can you explain this? Who is responsible? Are we to just sit around and go "yay we came close yet again!" At some point and inward look is needed. Definition of insanity: "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results"-Albert Einstein ... Welcome to Liberty Football. For the clinically insane.
I don't think you can point to one single person with that one ffg. I think really it will take a bit of a paradigm shift from the top down as far as the "big three" goes. If you look at swimming and field hockey, while they are not big time sports, we didn't go for "name hires" and they are showing significant growth. I think that if we do not make a change at the top in football (which I do not think happens this offseason regardless of the result this weekend), we need to establish a solid identity on both sides of the ball, and then find the best 22 guys who fit that identity. There needs to be open competition for all 22 spots (or 44 for the two-deep) from spring ball all the way through training camp. The best players rise to the occasion, the rest...ride the pine. I have said this before, but I think we need to look at moving to a more uptempo offense utilizing the read option and a much better screen game. I can give more thoughts later along that line but I will move on...

We do not need to blow it up and start over. Remember a few weeks ago, when we beat Appy St.? Don't recall too many people clamoring for a change at that point. We win next week, you won't hear it either.
If we do lose next week, there is no need to blow it up and start over again. Although that is a very Liberty Thing to do. Having consistency is a good thing

Forgive the Jesus juke here but Gill has said multiple times that God brought him to LU, because when he lost the job at Kansas he had NEVER even heard of Liberty. There is a reason he is our coach and I really think we will finally see it next week. I don't know why but I have just had a feeling all year that this team would be the one to finally break through and get us to the playoffs. Accuse me of drinking the kool-aid all you want. Remember how close we were last year? An OT loss on a blocked Field goal. If it comes down to that again I have a feeling Lunsofrd WILL NOT miss and WILL NOT get blocked.

Oh yeah.

Either you're misremembering or he is selling a lie. He hired Wimbo from Liberty while he was at Buffalo. They spent three years together before coming here. He had heard of Liberty.

Chadwell is a good coach, but they only won by a narrow margin and had Woodrum and Ray played, we would have won... it would have been an entirely different scenario. We might not beat Coastal, but I'd bet on a game much closer than the CCU/CSU game.

And If "ifs" and "buts" were candies and nuts we'd all have a merry Christmas. We didn't win. we lost. to an athletically inferior team coached by superior coaches. I'm not saying we fire Gill. I honestly think this is just a culture around the program that has become OK with mediocrity. I don't know who to fire. Who to keep. I mean there has been one constant in all this but we all know he's untouchable. I honestly cant tell you how to fix it. I can tell you i'm done being satisfied with coming oh so close.

At what point does the AD have to take the blame for the culture of losing that is pervasive throughout the major sports?

I have to give credit to the AD. I honestly thought he'd be long gone for a bigger cushier job. He seems like he's here to stay which is nice and all. I'm just so tired of losing. It wouldn't be so bad if we knew we were bad and we lost tons of games. thats easier to swallow. Its having incredibly talented teams year in and year out and still having nothing but shared trophies to show for it.

After Rocco I would've been right there with you. I think there's a new Jeff running the ship. He's tired of losing. He's also not looking for his next gig. He's here to stay. Will be very interesting to see what he does if we get blown out Saturday.

We aren't losing their minds. we are simply tired. for 8 straight years we have had the ability, talent, money etc. to field a playoff team. in those past 8 years we have either A) missed because of a committee vote because we didn't have an auto bid(most of those years we had one WTF game.) B) Shared a championship yet lost a tie breaker and ended up at home during playoffs. c) in 2006 we lost to Coastal by 2 Gdub by 3 and William and Larry on the infamous 4th down and short by 1. but we wouldn't have made the playoffs anyway.

Lets go back in history Shall we?

I've already explained what happened in 2006. we were close but just not there yet. THAT is when the hope that Danny Rocco might have gotten us to where we wanted to be.

2007- Won conference Champ for the first time. Unfortunately got curb stomped by Elon and Lost a close one to W&M in over time. Also almost had first FBS win in program history against Toledo. NO playoffs.
2008- Arguably the best year in LU football to date. LOST TO PRESBY had we not done that I believe we are in the playoffs. NO playoffs
2009-Lose to Stony brook in the Conference championship game. Couldn't get it done in OOC against JMU either. NO playoffs.
2010- What started out as a great year again we are plagued by several losses. RMU was probably the worst. Also losing to Coastal didn't help. NO playoffs.
2011-Again with the loss to SBU.NO playoffs.
2012-Loss to coastal was only BSC loss. Pretty rough year OOC. No playoffs.
2013- Loss to Coastal in 2OT. again Can't pull it out in a big game. No playoffs.
2014- See last weeks postmortem thread.

we have been 1 game away in all but maybe 2 of those years. THAT is what we are all tired of. I know you knew all this. but i thought i'd emphasize it since clearly some people still have their blinders on.

+1

We control our postseason future going into the last game of the year. I'll take that position every year.
We control it EVERY YEAR! THATS THE POINT! every year its the same old song. "We control our own destiny." "we can win the Auto bid" blah blah blah. if people honestly think we should win this game i'd like to have whatever you are drinking. Coastal is arguably the #1 team in the country. They went deep in the playoffs last year. They very much dislike losing to us. Which means they won't rest people. IF we do win this game it will be a miracle forged from heights of Heaven. Had we won last week. we are looking at the playoffs regardless of the outcome of this weeks game. in the ONE year the Socon decided to be terrible we crap the bed again. Sorry but i'm just tired. Really tired.

I'm as frustrated as anyone, but for those who seem to be voluntarily falling off the bandwagon, Please don't celebrate and enjoy it when we win on Saturday.

It's gonna be tough for sure, but I think with Josh back, we find a way to win.

The attitudes on here are the perfect description of why folks leave at halftime and won't come out when it's a little cold.

that is all.

There is nothing new or special about this team. I will not believe any different until it is proven on the field.
And Gill is giving me less and less reasons to like him. He lied to us last week about Woodrum. He's likely doing the same thing this week. Gill says Josh will play but let's see if he allows him to speak to the media.

Since that's a rule. Gripe now if you want to, I really don't care. I just think it's a few days early. People are overreacting to the CSU game.
Because it was Charleston Southern.

At home.

The only school it's EVER acceptable to lose to in the Big South is Coastal, and you better not do that too many times (you know, say, three times in a row) if you want to keep your job.
