and I wasnt really kidding when I said we could look for an 8 on 8 league... somebody that cares can check the facts but I think we are probably down to 7-8 starters on each side of the ball due to season-ending injuries.

crazy. Though thats a rough equivalent of the talent most of the lower tier BSOUTH teams have each year

I hate to think what a couple lean years will be like... having lived thru the 90's and 00's. Probably how the Geo. South. fans felt when they went thru a dry spell after a billion championship teams in a row.

Banks, Edwards & McKnight called and want a recount. But I feel your position and generally agree across the board.

I am not ready to take the sky is falling position. Not that any of you would expect that from me. But we are what we are and circumstances have placed us in a tough spot. I am hoping that we can use these last few games as a way to prepare ourselves for 2013. And for the record, I am not ready to assume any of our final three are shoe-ins for victory. Well, maybe VMI. But as depleted as we are right now just surviving the remainder of the season is a reasonable goal. On the other hand, we still have enough talent and with the Stony Brook game in our house I wouldn't completely rule out any possibilities. Yeah, they are considerably better than us right now. But stranger things have happened.

BuryYourDuke wrote:Despite a poor performance today, I believe we are in good shape at QB. Lets face it, we lost 2 of our top 3 WR's from last year. One of those was far and away better than any WR we had ever had. We lost our top 2 QB's, one of whom was a dual threat that was a good chunk of our offense. Remember, we couldn't run the ball at all last year with the exception of Mike Brown. The point of that statement is that our o-line wasn't good, and still isn't.

This year, we have a freshman QB, a patchwork o-line, a possession/#3 WR playing the #1 role, and the #2 WR out for the year.

Woodrum has nothing to throw to anymore. We have zero deep threat. When you can't stretch the field, playing defense against you becomes pretty simple. Teams, even in the Big South, aren't stupid.

I do think the coaching has been mediocre, especially play calling. I hate the alternating of Holloway and Allen. Allen should be playing. Period.

We lost a ton and didn't get a ton to replace the talent. We weren't stacked we were thin after our starters last year. This year we were thinner yet, and then we had injury issues. It sucks and losing isn't acceptable, but lets not pretend that we are a very talented team.
We agree on something :dontgetit I'm gonna reread that post

LU is not a pro team. The runs up the middle fools no one and puts the team to sleep. Missing? End runs and short middle field passes. Having you r-fresh quarterback throw the "bomb" often is crazy. How can the defense get excited when they know the offense will go 3 and out or kick a field goal.

just a poor performance all around. I don't want to go to one extreme to the next depending on how this team performs. I knew going into this season it would be an up and down season and that is exactly what we're see

Will better talent help some of the things that we are seeing, yes. It doesn't change bad play calling, poor player rotations.

BTW, why on earth is Bayoh on the team, if i was an opposing team i would throw at him every down. I feel like we are back in the Karcher era with 5'7 CB's.

We just dont look like a good team, thats all i know.

Don't quote me on it. That's what I heard from a reliable source. He had a police escort to the hospital, and is already home from there. Hopefully it was just precautionary stuff.

Considering I've got district titles under my belt in two sports (volleyball/basketball), and playoff appearances in the other two (football/lacrosse), I'll stick to knowing coaching from actually doing it. I don't even own a Playstation or Xbox so that's irrelevant.

Gill got 1 winning season out of Buffalo, left after a losing season, and the team returned right back to their position as bottom feeders. Gill, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the job, did a horrendous job at Kansas. Those teams gave up 40+ in 13 of his 24 games and won a whopping 5 contests. That's the same 5-19 record that Chizik put up at Iowa St. Gill seems like a great person, but there's a significant amount of evidence that says he's not a good head coach.

Best post I have read in a while, finally someone else starting to figure it out... LU football is mediocre Big South team/program now... How you like Rocco now??

A few here are quick to say we are not FBS ready every time something goes wrong on the field. Now that we are out of the championship race, putting 15,000 + "loyal" fans in the stands for the two remaining games would counter the argument. I'm there! Are you? GO FLAMES!

Again, if you were really a coach you would know your posts are utter nonsense. To say injuries don't matter to this team is a joke. To say that circunstances surrounding his time at Kansas are irrelevant is nieve at best. To not be in a practice, to not know the philosophy, to not know the atmosphere in the locker room and then to pass judgement passed on a handful of games is flat out :BS Maybe you should buy an XBox.
KING- you can keep Rocco. I doubt he'd do any better with this talent

I think its comical that some people really believe Rocco would've done much better with this team. The only thing he would give us is the fact the team wouldn't of had to learn a new philosophy. That gives us maybe 1 more win...maybe. Rocco put all of his eggs into last season and STILL couldn't get it done.

I am so thankful for what Rocco did for this program but come on...

You guys know I like Rocco and stood up for him last year even with the player controversies. But I think this team is better coached. If this "staff" can recruit another class like last years, we are deep into the playoffs with these guys (or in a bowl game?). I hope they stay together long enough for us to see it.

Postgame wrap-up
Hurricane Sandy and the Chanticleers called the shots today, as Coastal Carolina (4-4, 2-1) knocked off Liberty (3-5, 2-1) 36-12. In a windy and rain-soaked rivalry contest, Coastal stays alive in the Big South Championship race. Liberty has now lost 5 games in a season for the first time since 2006.

Let me preface my post by saying i am a Flame fan for life, however i will not put my head in the sand. I was torched on twitter yesterday and called a "bad fan"for my comments. I am not impressed at all with our coaching staff at all. They continue to fail to make the adjustments necessary to win. How about using some two TE sets with Apon and Gunn? that would also help out our running game which is our strength. I know Woodrum lost his favorite target in Ferguson, but those who continue to say injuries are the reason we are struggling i just feel are wrong. We have enough talent on this team to overcome the key losses we have sustained i just do not feel the coaching is up to par.

I don't think you are a bad fan. I just think you are wrong about the amount of talent we have on this team. Even without the injuries. The running game isn't that strong and we have no play making receivers. Take a look at our O and D lines compared to who we play. Sure I scratch my head at some of the play calls. But I'd wager it's no more then years past.

like i said adapt. use two TE sets and that helps the running game. Apon and Gunn are big TE's who can block. haize i know you are on Gill's payroll!
Are we back?

Nice! Here is to hoping we can live bot free.
