Almost all the players are in summer workouts even some of the incoming freshman are working out. Coach Bill is running them through his "get in shape" program. They will have workouts until July 26th (I think) then they get a break before they report to camp on August 1

I've read here that summer camp starts Aug 1 and read a tweet from Mike Tilley that said it starts Aug 3. Can somebody confirm?

I like the write-ups on the roster page much better under Gill. It seems to actually give us a glimpse of what the coaches think of each player. Of course there are no overly critical parts but it does tell you the players that the staff is more impressed with at each position.

Bryant was on my hall the year he walked onto the team. To see how far he has come since then is nothing short of inspirational

The guys are doing max outs this week. All of Bill's hard work is put to the test this week.

It would be interesting to see what kind of weight these guys can lift by position. Is there somewhere that keeps these stats? are they public?

BJ is correct. We usually hear numbers via tweet. With the recent amount of Instagram use by the players, we might even see some pics from the action.

Coach Gill is really going to have the attention of his players during camp. I hear that they are going to be housed on campus for part or all of camp. I don't think DR ever did this but this is what all the big time programs do.

Not sure many of the current players remember him. But he was a straight up baller for both the Huskers & Pats.

The players are hitting the field for the first time in camp this morning. With camp closed, we are going to be leaning heavily on the SIDs to give us any look inside.

It's even closed to the sports information staff. And Alan and Nick, unless something has changed from the spring. I probably would have raised a lot more hell about the whole practice closing thing if they were allowed in, to be honest. But since it's a level playing field all around, I have fewer complaints.

Players and coaches are available to speak every Monday and Friday, so I'll be in gathering mode those days to get info for preview info for the blog and the paper. The exception is today, since it's the opening day. I'm heading over there in a bit. I'll have a feature in tomorrow's fishwrap on Hunter Steward and his quick transformation from reserve defensive lineman to starting left tackle.
