Elon played very good. I listened to the entire game.

I admit that CCU's loss certainly hurt the league's effort in week one. But frankly, at leats the rest of ythe teams won games they should've won. That hasn't always been the case in recent years.

As for the Chants, I have a feeling its going ot be a very long non-conference schedule for them until they can start winning against Big South schools. And how much affect will their struggles against Elon, Wofford, GSU & Furman have on their possible admission tot he SoCon after the football season? I think it could have a major impact. It would solidify the case of their detractors (a couple of whom they are playing this season) that the Chants are not quite ready for prime time.

Sly, VMI's effort was embarrassing for the league.

Davidson last beat a I-AA scholarship program in 1981, and had the Wildcats converted on just one of their drives deep into VMI territory that they faltered on, they would have won that game.

The Keydet run game only got going once the Davidson line wore down in the fourth quarter. The secondary was awful. The only chance they have at a win this season is next week in Norfolk, and I don't see them getting that one. Then it's W&M, Richmond, JMU, Army, El Cid and the Big South schools (in no particular order).

G-W's result doesn't surprise me. Struggled a bit in the first half with a new QB and new RBs and turned it on in the second.

CSU beating Presby is a nice win. Presby's a very good DII that's already ramping up its roster in anticipation of the move up. Getting that win on the road was very good for the Bucs.

Coastal's loss was definitely unexpected.

Unexpected but hardly surprising. If the Chants pulll off any SoCon victories this year I think it would be unexpected.

As for VMI's victory, the Keydets have learned to take them anywhere they can find them.

CSU's win over Presby was absolutely huge, at least for CSU. Why? Because CSU has played PC each of the last 14 years and, until yesterday, had not won this game since 1993. Granted, PC is still a D2 but getting off the schneid vs a team that's owned them for the last 12 years is a great boost to start the season down in Chucktown.

I know VMI is really thin this year but letting Davidson nearly steal this one on their home opener doesn't bode well for the Keydets.

I don't know if I've said it before on here but, if he can settle down, Devin Campbell at G-W is a scary player. 4 turnovers vs. Jacksonville doesn't really frighten me.

I know Elon was the worst team in the SoCon last year but their new coach, Pete "Popeye's Best Friend, Wimpy" Lembo had kept Lehigh in the top third of I-AA for the 6 years or so. He's a guy that's used to gut-check games like this. Last year, CCU turned the ball over left and right yet still managed to keep a little 4th-quarter magic in their back pocket. I wonder if that pocket ran dry after 3 OTs in Williams last year.

CCU's biggest obstacle may be that they look vulnerable to teams now. Maybe after all those "have to come from behind" wins last year, people aren't intimidated this time around.

Just a thought.
