Actual phone conversation from 6:15 this morning (husband is already at work for 12 hr shift before I wake up):

Husband: "Hello?"
Me: "Heyyy, how ya doing? You remember our 25th anniversary is this year, right? Have you made plans?" (laughing to self, as I know 1. he doesn't remember what year anniversary it is and 2. he never makes plans)
Husband: "ummmmm. Not really. What do you have on your mind?"
Me: "How about a trip to Missoula, MT?"
Husband: "What on earth for?!"
Me: "A football game on September 15."
Him: "Are you out of your mind, woman?!" long pause....... "but, it will be elk season... so, okay - maybe.possibly. i'll think about it. we'll see" (or some other nonsense, i don't hear anything after the word "okay")
Me: "yayyyy! we're going to Montana!!"
wow - praying for such a call from my wife!

Sly Fox wrote:And fishermen, have you ever seen "A River Runs Through It"? Yup, that's Missoula.
Thought so, with one of my all-time favorite lines: "They were Methodists, a denomination my father referred to as Baptists who could read."

Seriously, though, has anyone checked on flight costs out of Lynchburg, Roanoke, Dulles, Greensboro, etc?

Yes. I found $500 from Dulles, $516 from Richmond, $522 from Roanoke.

$769 from Lynchburg.

$538 from Greensboro.

$510 from Charlottesville.

Prices include your taxes, and you'll save money by being flexible with your dates.

What gets me there the earliest in the day? I don't want to spend a full day in the airport on the west leg too. Anything get me there by noon? Also on the return trip no red eyes. Not good for work the next day. So now what's the best option? I know I'm not picky at all

based on what I saw if you fly literally on the weekend you'll pay a ton more.

Also, the earliest flight I saw arriving in MSO from any of those was 3:55 P.M, at least from Roanoke.

I did the price search, so you can do the orbitz part :D

We played at Cal Poly in 1998

Wow, good memory or research! I had remembered seeing Cal Poly play in Lynchburg in 97" @ LU (it was a great quality WIN against a "ranked" team) but I had totally forgotten that LU had travelled to Cal Poly the following year to the Left Coast in 98".

Anyhow, anytime Liberty is playing "West of the Mississippi" is a real treat and rare opportunity for those of us alum living in the wild, wild West.

My wife and I make trips back east to alot of these specified airports mentioned above each year. All of our family and friends are back on the east coast. I am not the weatherman to forecast accurately what airline prices will be in 2012; however, typical prices like the one's mentioned above will likely drop and lower in price in the days ahead as opposed to increase or climb in the next couple weeks and months. Even for Missoula, those prices are a little high.

Just saying right now, that in terms of airfare ticket prices they will likely get better as opposed to worse in the days ahead.

Expedia (and other sites) have some website features that can show or predict pricing trends, forecasts and hot peak / cold slow seasons of travel as well. If this helps :)

I am encouraged at the amount of people in general for this particular away game. It would be great to have a strong and zealous turnout.

Any idea what a charter from Lynchburg would cost to Montana? 150 seats at $400 equals $60K. I think that would get a plane there and back and leave some profit in their pockets. Who could we approach with that idea?

Just for fun, I thought I'd check into Amtrak. It services 12 Montana cities but NOT Missoula. :banghead

Greyhound goes into Missoula, but I think it would be faster to hitch hike.

Greyhound is NOT the mode of travel you want. Having taken it myself, I can say you want to be as far away from a bus as possible as a viable long distance travel option

My first Thanksgiving break at LU I didn't have a car and I took Greyhound, lets just say it was so awful I took a ride with a girl I could not stand just to avoid the bus again....ok actually, looking back the Greyhound bus was much better then putting up with one of the most annoying human beings I have ever met

Wow that was a very BJ'esqe post, I am ashamed

Captain HoMO could probably stuff 8-10 of you in his Cessna 150 if you take out the seats and lay down, but that might be it.

on the bright side... it would be considerably cheaper.
