No, we had a major legal ethics scandal, and Tressel was just involved in a "players get free things for going to Ohio State" scandal.

Just wait till you see pictures of Chene Phillips at Layer's house and you'll realize violations happen everywhere.

I don't like his facial hair, so he's off the list

As a big Husker fan I would love to see Gil. A strongg Christian and not ashamed to share his faith. He had a good thing going at UB, most folks thought the only football in Buffalo was the Bills.

Maybe Gil could bring back the linebacker coach we lost to UB a few years ago.

another name would be Ron Brown from Nebraska.
Big Huskers Fan here personally love to see Ron.

p.s. Do agree with Sly this maybe premature though I think there are some hurt feelings on this move by Rocco. Being a lateral one and all.
+1 on the Husker fan but I think the better shot of landing a Husker would be Gill.
I know Ron has a job but he has never been HC. I know hes never been HC but he has worked under both Osborne and Pelini at Nebraska, likely to be the two greatest coaches in Nebraska history, no doubt learning a thing or two. He is from the IVY so he will bring distinction and class to a program that might could use some.
He is thoroughly Christian having authored several books on Christian Growth. We could save money by having him fill in at convo. Lol.
He has proved himself as a coach sending 27 of his players to the Pros. I think his primed to make the jump to HC. and Liberty would be the best place for him to do it.

The problem is his is quite well established in Nebraska. And its not very close to Lynchburg.

What about a guy like Paul Wulff who has been on both levels?

no chance its a lateral move..cmon man geez LU fans take things so personal and lose sight of the facts..they won a National Championship..Liberty has barely sniffed post season play
I agree they are a better team in the past but I have to think we are a better team in the future. From what I understand they have no intentions of BCS play. They have worse facilities. Now I think Richmond is just a convenient stepping stone from high to what I understand is his ultimate goal of Wake Forest.
We will be better than Richmond in the near future. Especially with a new coach that isn't afraid of firing someone that isn't getting the job done. We have money coming in. We ARE a much younger school. We have good facilities and a vision for going all the way.

Wow, only a few posts before Tony Dungy was brought up, I'm impressed. But no Joe Gibbs mention yet, that's a let down.

Any LU alum or local guys that we'd look at? Or are we just looking at people to drop down to take the job? That seems to me what guys do to stave off retirement.

Could we see the Mike London situation play out here? Previous coach leaves after taking the program as far as he could, next coach comes in and they win the NC. Not saying we're going to win the NC, but we could get to the next level (playoffs) as soon as next year.

That thought definitely crossed my mind too

It doesn't matter who is hired as head coach. If Clark stays - same result. If coach Rocco was unwilling to fire Clark, the , when then.....uhmmm..well I can't believe I am saying this , uhm, maybe his move is the right thing. There. I said it. I will always be a fan of Danny Rocco. Godspeed Coach.

I just hope we don't settle for some FCS mediocrity, (not saying any former FCS coach would be mediocre.) We are on the way up and need a coach to take us there.

I know who Ron Brown is (met him a few times along with the original TO) hard to find a better person. I'm just not sure he'd want a head coaching job as he seams to have other priorities. I'd have no problem being wrong in this case either. I've just never seen him chase a promotion, although the fit would be ideal.

So at least one guy in the burg knows about Ron Brown 8)

PS: where did your husker ties come from? GBR

I would expect several LU assistants to be retained by whoever is hired next. Coach Clark would not be among them IMHO.

As for a timetable, ASAP. We don't have to follow the same standards that state schools do in regarding to hiring process. We can go and look for our man and snatch him up before someone else does.

All of that said, things historically haven't been resolved quickly around campus outside of the Layer hire. So it could take several weeks. But I know everyone involved wants this to get done quickly.

With all of the Rocco rumors every single year, I'll be pretty disappointed if we don't know where we're going as soon as Danny interviewed.

Thanks Sly! In my ideal world we would make a big splash at HC before Feb. and maybe steal away some of those recruits we missed on.

In an ideal world, we'd have full staff in place to work recruiting hard as soon as the dead period ends in January. This could go down fairly quickly.

My first thought was that I'd love to get Wimbo back on the mountain. I absolutely loved working for him.
