Apparently the next Fire Drill is going to be the Wednesday before Homecoming.

Wednesday, October 11, 2006. This is Fire Drill Day. We are going to do the exact same thing as was planned last time before we were prohibited by lightning. The band will be there, along with the cheerleaders, step team, and our entire Football team four with Coach Rocco. There will be a marked off section just for you guys....come take advantage of it. It will last for about thirty minutes or so and will be immediately following THE Campus Church.

The reason they're doing this is because Midnight Madness, excuse me, Fire In The Furnace is that Friday night.

Now, maybe it's just me, but football should take priority during football season. It's abso-frickin-lutely rediculous to have a pep rally on Wednesday when the game's not even until Saturday. That's also mid-term week for a lot of class. Woo, yea, let's get people fired up on Wednesday night so they can go take tests on Thursday and Friday. Then we'll get them fired up for basketball season on Friday night so they can wait over a month for a game.

I'm not dissing the basketball team at all. You guys should have midnight madness and it should be great, but it shouldn't move a pep rally for a sport that is in season to a night in the middle of the week.

The football team will be at a hotel on Friday night, Wednesday makes more sense if you are going to have everybody there.. espically since it is a 1 o'clock game unlike last time where it was a night game

The football team doesn't have to be there. A Wednesday pep rally for a Saturday game will never make sense, especially at 8pm.

Midnight madness is a tradition for every college in the nation, it would be pretty ridiculous to make our guys basketball team have their midnight madness on a different night than all the other schools.

I was trying to think if I've ever heard of a school having it this early. Generally speaking, most schools have it the next week but I think that's because most schools have fall break that week. I just think Midnight Madness would be much more successful that Saturday night. It'd have a huge theme going for the entire homecoming weekend. Pep rally Friday night, game on Saturday afternoon, hockey game at 7:30 that night, and a version of midnight madness that night as well. The alumni would be there so that would spark even more interest (it wouldn't be at midnight of course). The alumni would come to it and then, if they liked the product that they saw, you've got a better chance of selling more season tickets. Hype will sell some, but seeing them on the floor would help even more.

We don't do nearly as much for homecoming as most schools. There's generally a Homecoming King and Queen. There's generally a float contest, even if there's no parade. There are things throughout the week leading up to the actual game. As far as I know, we're just having the pep rally on Wednesday night and doing nothing Thursday or Friday for football.

there is a float contest, just nobody cares about it because liberty has no spirit whatsoever, one of those things that needs to be worked on i guess, and I am pretty sure the second friday of October is when LU always has midnight madness, and i think it works out well being during homecoming weekend....it will be ok having the pep rally on wednesday....i mean there has been NO pep rally the first 2 home games and the fans were pretty amped up, so I don't think its anything to get upset about

There's a float contest? When were they going to announce it?

That was one of my more fun weeks at Coastal. We worked all week on a float and then the Friday night before homecoming we were working on it until about 3 in the morning.

There has been a float contest as long as I've been a student at LU. I don't know if they haven't announced it yet or not, but it's a known fact for most. The probably announce it in convo.

Who makes the floats? Is it dorms or clubs or what?

For the record, Midnight Madness used to be on Midnight of Oct 15th which was the official start date of basketball season. Now the official start is the Friday closest to Oct 15 which this year happens to be Friday the 13th. A rule that has changed is that your team is allowed to practice at 7 PM and they don't have to wait until the clock strikes 12 like they used to. Having it on Saturday would be fun but it would not be the same as having it when most of the country is kicking things off. Our alumni game is either going to start at 10 or 11 and then the hoops team will come out after we play. I believe there is a hockey game on Friday night as well as Saturday night that weekend.

Anybody can join the float contest, dorm, clubs, or just a group of friends. I haven't seen an announcement on the splash page yet, but they have it every year and there is always some kind of cash prize......

oh yeah, very true...someone should buy an ad in the champion and on the light or something...the light a thon is coming up, and they are looking for money...so you never know

midnight madness is the first official day teams are allowed to have full practices.

I know it's the first day of practice. What I was saying was that a lot of schools will push back the midnight madness "pep rally" until the next week because many schools are out that Thursday and Friday for fall break. LU doesn't have fall break though so that's not a problem.

Actually down here in Texas the pep rallies tend to be a couple of days in advance. Texas does their Torchlight Parade for OU on Wednesdays historically and the same goes for the hex rally. I know the bonfires at A&M used to be on Thursdays before that tradition came to a screeching halt. But Zack could probably tell you more about the Aggie yell practices and its timing.
