501 all the way?? I did that one time on my way home from school back in the day just for something different.....it's brutal!! But then again, 501 doesn't run very close to home so I still had a ways to travel once I hit the Va line.

Anyways, it sounds like Jon sent him out of Myrtle straight towards Greensboro. And then 29 from there on into the Hill City. After the first 90 minutes or so, most all of that would be on 220, or the "future" I-73, which is a great road. It does go through a lot of farm and fruit stand type of country though, and I guess our good friend Bob from the Windy City isn't quite used to those sorts of things.

That bypass of those little towns like Norman and Ellerbee cuts 45 minutes off that trip. I usually make it in just a shade less than five hours. The worst part of the trip is when you get to Conway and everything slows way down on 501.

Chris, give me a holler next year and i'll give you a back route that by passes the mess on 501 if you are coming down 95. We travel it all the time from the Raleigh area and make it to coastal in 3 hours

Wasn't on 501 at all.

On Hwy 9 for a long time, and 220. That's all I remember.
Oh yikes. You were probably all the way in Roanoke!

Yeah 29 is the best way. It's 60 (and 65) all the way up, much better than 220 (only 55 and numerous Franklin County Mayberry cops)

Bock, he's talking about the south of Greensboro part of the trip.

29 to 220 South to Rt. 1 (for two seconds) to 74 to SC-38 to 501 just outside of Marion and then into Conway. I sound like I've made this trip a few times ...

Gotcha thanks Lang. Yeah that's the same way I do it (minus the 29 part).

Very true. I am used to bumper-to-bumper traffic, horns honking, and skyscrapers lol
