since we evidently have more than enough interest, we should put a little thought into organizing this. Someone down there that can help us work out details like location, permits (if necessary) and arranging food and beverages, etc.

I'll help with organizing as much as possible- bearing in mind I'm 400 miles away- I guess PM me and we'll get the ball rolling?

If everything falls into place perfectly (and I do mean perfectly) I MAY be able to make homecoming. The odds are not in my favor, but I'm looking to see if I can make it happen.

As for tailgates, that would be awesome.

I think once we know how all the parking is going to shake out, then we can plan on a location

I have an idea of how things are going to work parking wise, I'm just not 100% sure yet.

There's supposed to be a designated tailgating area at the edges of the p1 lot for members of the flames club and student flames club...why couldn't we use that?

If you're not in the Flames Club and Student Flames Club, those 30 spots are unavailable, I think. Don't quote me 100% on that.

I signed up for the weekend on the Alumni site. Is the dinner free again on Saturday? Looked that way to me.

I'll be there! Along with a slew of Tribe fans. The Bath County crew turned out big for Jake Phillips at VMI last year, and I imagine they'll do so at Liberty as well. We've got several other kids from the area, including Josh Wright from Amherst County.

Question on tailgating. Does Liberty allow alcohol at the tailgates? I suspected they might not.

Tailgating regardless of alcoholic concerns is somewhat of a challenge at LU due to parking. Anyone int he know want to take a stab at the alcohol question?

For the record, I think you are going to have a COMPLETELY different experience at Liberty as opposed to your last trip. FRom the field to the Ops Center to the general buzz on campus surrounding the football team, its night & day from the malaise surrounding the program the last few years under our previous regime.

And dare I say it ... I think we are going to be much more competitive on the field as well.

We'll be more competitive certainly, but I'm not counting on a W when we play W&M. As far as Alcohol-the official policy is none is permitted. I do not know how well its enforced or anything like that though...

It shouldn't be. We tailgated on the complete opposite end of campus as Coastal and had to walk across campus (equivalent of probably the Vines to Williams or The Circle to Williams) and it was just fine. The problem was no one promoted it.

The alcohol thing presents an interesting conundrum for LU wanting to gain a foothold among football fans in Central Virginia from UVA and Tech and in wanting to create a big time Saturday Afternoon atmosphere in central Virginia for Football since many elevate tailgating to an art form. Since many LU non-alum in the region are UVA and Tech fans, those who want to go to a game and are afficionados of the fermented product will probably opt for the Hoos or Hokies. With the stance on alcohol for the student population, perhaps, a solution would be to have a separate place for visiting teams to tailgate.

im sure it is prohibited, but if it's in a cup, i doubt LUPD would be coming up to your tailgate.

The question about the alcohol is very daunting. If we go to 1-a people coming in will drink because that's what they do when they go to games. If we want to schedule visiting teams we will have to do something to accomodate them. I'm not so sure what that answer would be.

I don't see the problem. BYU apparently doesn't either. This is copied from their Honor Code.

Abstain From Alcoholic Beverages

Any consumption of alcohol, in any form, is a breach of the Honor Code. The following are examples of serious noncompliant behavior related to alcohol use:
Being present where alcohol is being consumed by others -- like a stadium?
Personal consumption of alcohol socially or as a consequence of alcoholism
Furnishing alcohol to others
Having alcohol in one's apartment

Just renewed my Flames Club membership and bought season tickets in Section 5 Row E hopefully at the 50 yard line. Have been a member for many, many years with the exception of last year (too much KK). Looking forward to experiencing the excitement first hand and hoping we have/will make great stides in the next few years. Must admit, I am very impatient for improvement, but believe Rocco will do a great job. Go LU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could flameshaw be drinking the Koolaid?

I think you represent the feeling of many alumni who have been anxious to feel excited about the football program once again.

Just pointing out a slight difference: But how many people that BYU plays actually travel to the middle of Utah to watch the game, plus the surrounding area (and state for that matter) is predominantly Mormon-influenced. LU will be trying to draw fans in from Central Virginia, in which it is no secret that it is a stronghold of UVA and Tech.

Plus, if LU wants to keep its stance, and followed a similar code as in the BYU handbook, they could still offer a separate tailgating area to accomodate and encourage visiting teams fans to come and add to the ticket sales and the LU students wouldn't be inviolation of:

No one is saying serve it in the stadium, although that would be an interesting day in LU athletics (won't happen, and I'm not endorsing it either way.) Although, they could fire up some ol' Liberty Lager (for Medic) with any old distillery parts left over from the 1920's Lynchburg era. See it now: Your game today is brought to you by the cool crisp Liberty Lager, made from Candler's Mountain's finest spring water, make sure to buy a can to support your LUFB, but make sure to pour it out on your way out of the stadium. (Take a breath before you hardliners jump all over it, just a joke, see http://flamefans.com/viewtopic.php?t=1662)

Here is an interesting tidbit from the Tournament Materials that they distribute for the Debate Tournament LU hosts:
Special Announcement: Alcoholic beverage consumption is not allowed on
the Liberty University campus. Smoking is only permitted outside the
academic buildings. Please do not smoke in the public lounges or
classrooms. Your adherence to the no smoking request will help to
guarantee a pleasant visit.

Just an interesting observation: Smoking is permissible, but alcohol is not.

Another Tribe fan here, and I'm pretty excited for this game as it will most likely be my first I-AA game away from W&M.

Go Tribe!

By the way, I'm impressed with this website. Whoever created this did a great job.

Hey Kaplan, you're more than welcome to bring me a birthday present to the game. I won't be offended at all if you do.

I am either going to the W&M game @JMU or @Liberty but sadly not both. I'm about 50-50 right now as to which I will choose as if I pick JMU I'd miss part of the game, so that is a huge point in Liberty's favor.
