Yeah, I just got the season tickets brochure in the mail today, and it has the same above image of the seating. They probably won't advertise the new illustration until it's done or when construction starts. Though the season tickets brochure wouldn't have much need to show the new seating.

One question since I've never been to your fine facility.....if you were to do so, how far could you build 'up' on the sides. Case in point, at Spangler Stadium, we built up on the side to add seating. Could LU do the same without completely ruining the dexterity or atmosphere of the stadium.

Oh, by the way, nice Christ-like sportsmanship job on the visitors seating there. :nonono What, y'all didn't have a set of metal bleachers to put in one of the end zone like you would have found at a rural Alabama or Mississippi high school in the 50's or 60's?

Remember, adding capacity actually helps LU's chances of hosting a playoff game one day in the future. Even though G-W has a fine facility, we'll never be able to scratch a dream of that idea.

You can only do so much. You can probably build up on the student side (sections 10-16), but the "Baptist" side runs right against the press box. IMHO, if and when they expand the stadium again, it'll be above the visitor's clubhouse to complete the horseshoe.

Where would you like us to put them? The opposite side of the stadium is the student section and that side is always packed with more people than capacity. So, the visitors can't sit over there. On the other side Sections 4-6 are for Flames Club and Season Ticket holders. Also, alot of teams we play don't travel enough people to warrant having more seats than Section 9. Sections 1-3 and 7 & 8 are G.A. So, if visiting team's fans want to sit there they can if they get there early enough.

If opposing fans really have a problem with seating... they can catch the game on TV. That's more than LU fans can say about any of our other opponents.

Hey, the metal bleachers in the end zone get free pizza. Also, the visitors section has the benefit of getting the hot backblast from the flamethrowers that go off whenever we score. As I recall, the visiting fans stayed nice and toasty the last time G-W came to town.

Hardy-har-har....at least you didn't bring them down here to Boiling Springs last time either...would have burnt the town down.:(

How about building upward on your sidelines, what effect would it have on views, etc. Just curious. My wife can't understand my fascination with stadiums, all sizes and sports. I'm no genius regarding the innards of architecture either, but enjoy looking at possibilities. I would tend to think Dr. Falwell, in the grand scheme of things, made sure that there is some sort of ability to add 10-15 thousand seats to your place if/when needed for a move to a higher level of competition. Probably on some blueprint in the LU athletic department vault somewhere.

It's been discussed on here numerous times before. I understand you probabaly haven't caught one of those conversations. The plans are to bowl in the end of the stadium where the visiting locker room is. That will bring us to appx. 20-25,000 seats, that much we know. There has also been many rumors that the side with the visitor's seating could eventually get a 2nd level with a new press box and permanent luxury suites.

Manson is correct. The first phase would be to add corners to both sides of the stadium seating and that should be completed for the '09 season. The following phases would be to U in the 460 side of the stadium followed by building up and back on each side and, ultimately, adding a second tier on both sides. Obviously, the timing of those later phases will be determined by demand and funding but Williams was designed to be expandable when it was originally built. By the time all phases were complete, capacity would be in the neighborhood of 40-50K.

I noticed what I thought looked like temporary bleachers in the corners of the stadium with the red chairbacks fastened on like a month ago. Is that what this is talking about? If so it's a little underwhelming but capacity is capacity. Does this affect the number of suites we can put in?

I wouldnt see a problem with doing that as a precursor to something better. About how long would it take to put in some new seats from top to bottom on the corners of the stadium by the visitors locker room?

those bleachers with the red chair backs are, unless im mistaken, are the ones that were used in the red zone seating last year, and at soccer and softball games. They were put there for graduation. I don't think that would be something they would take the time to talk about on the news.

Uh, no. It'll be permanent seating.

Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere else but did these seats get built for this season? The seating chart doesn't show it but it is mentioned on the athletic website:
The stadium is located on the Liberty campus, near the site of the old football practice fields. The stadium seats 15,000, with the capabilities for future expansion. For the 2007 season, suites were added to the concourse on the press box side. The suites are a climate-controlled environment which includes a second-story, open-air observation deck with tent covering, and each unit seats up to 48 people.

An additional 3,000 permanent seats were added to the lower bowl of Williams Stadium in time for the 2009 season, marking the first permanent expansion to Liberty’s football edifice
.

Not that it really matters with the expansion coming for next year...

no, they weren't able to get the seats built in time so they're going to hold off.

It was more of a cost thing. Because of what it would've cost to put them in that quickly, it wasn't going to be that cost effective. Instead, they're putting it with the rest of the construction projects for next year.

It appears your intel was on the mark.
