We beat WVU in overtime because the smoke from burning couches blinds their offense so they can't score. We kick a winning field goal when the skies suddenly clear.

We beat JMU on a last minute kickoff return for a touchdown because their special teams suddenly think they're playing Richmond.

And we still don't get into the playoffs because nobody on the selection committee has ever heard of us (thanks to KK, who tells them that Coastal is the only team in the Big South that plays football).

HOWEVER, I think Liberty plays this one closer than anyone expects, and the loss will give our team some respect.

I don't see us making the playoffs with a 9-2 record. With a 9-2 record, our only wins are against teams in our weak conference and non-playoffs teams, except for maybe Lafayette. I think we have to beat JMU, at home, to have a shot at making the playoffs. Then we would be 10-1 with our only loss being the WVU game. I don't see how they can leave us out then. And if we beat WVU we should make the playoffs even if we only pick up 8 wins IMHO...

9-2 with a close loss to JMU will get us in. Close loss to JMU will get us some attention among the committee members who didn't hear about us last season, win over Lafayette will get us a decent non conference win. Anything less than that and we're shaky, I think, and anything more than that is a longshot.

If you go 9-2 with the losses to WVU and JMU, think of the Top 25 polls. Your losses will be early enough in the year that LU could be breaking into the top 15 by the end of the season. Whether the nimrods on the selection committee admit it or not, they read those polls, so LU will get good exposure.

Also, if you want to use a power ranking slant, it would help LU, and the Big South in general, for all Big South teams to do well out of conference this season. CSU being a sacrificial lamb for UF and USF won't help. Ignoring the FBS teams, look at the chances for quality out of conference wins for the Big South this fall:

LU - at Lafayette, JMU at home.
G-W - at Western Carolina
CSU - at Wofford
VMI - at JMU, at Richmond
SB - at Hofstra, at Colgate, at North Dakota, at UMass, Brown at home
PC - at Furman, at Citadel, Elon and Chatty at home

I wouldn't be too concerned about Stony Brook. If LU is trying to get to 9 wins by winning that one, they'll be focused. LU should be more concerned about getting bit in the buttox by VMI or CSU, both of which should come after big wins, the PC revenge game and your homecoming game.
