As for Canterbury Tales, I had to read it along with Silas Marner & Beowulf and I believe all three are HIGHLY overrated.

Sly, as long as you don't bad mouth Cooper, Faulkner, or Thoreau, I'm fine with you guys taking jabs at the middle English and Victorian authors. I'm an American Lit guy, so even though I had to read all the authors and works that you all have mentioned, I would much prefer a down to earth American author over those stuffy English authors--just a matter of personal preference, I guess.

For the record, I dusted off my copy of The Canterbury Tales so that I could share a line from "The Nun's Priest's Tale" which stars the Chanticleer. Here's the advice he receives (in modern translation):

"Now, sir, when we fly down from the rafters, for the love of God, take a laxative."
Of course, I would recommend the same for the Chants football team as well as their coaching staff.
