Like HCTG a lot as a person, great representative of the University. For me personally, 10-1 doesn't get me on the train. I would come to the station, but not buy a ticket. I am not sold that HCTG can recruit/coach the athletes that we need to compete at FBS level. My definition of compete, is to have a winning season at least 8 out of 10 years and a bowl game every 3 years.
Just don't see the fiery/charismatic personality required. No one wishes him any more success than I do. My first choice in a coach is to have the Christian character to represent the university well, winning is secondary. The ideal person/coach brings both to the table.
2 losses- seat becomes very hot
3 losses-gone

I know Satterfield applied for the position in 2012. I think giving him a nice pay raise we can lure him away from App State. I bet IM and Jr will try and lure a Big name coach such as Miles or Kelly if they're available.

As for Gill, I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt but he's not redshirting any starters. Baylor and JSU are almost guarantee losses. His defense has showed no signs of stopping the spread and triple option. CSU and KSU are questionable. You can throw in Indiana State and Gardner Webb as well.

I predict another 7-5 season. I just don't see him lasting especially with him not being McCaw's guy.

Speaking of Les Miles, he signed on with Fox Sports for a TV gig this year but says he's open to a return to coaching. Thoughts he may find his way to the mountain?

That would be cool but would he want to come here? Then again the salary offer can lead him here. That'll be a big offer for sure.

He's one of the 3 obvious options

It would pretty much guarantee the recruits too. We would be looking at BSU level recruiting classes off the bat with Miles under the headset.

Pro
Still pretty young
P5 experience and some success
3-3 in bowl games and an FCS championship appearance

Con
Never got over the hump
Not a splashy hire (at least in my mind)
I think you have to ask if the hire is:

- Worth the growing pains of a new coach, staff, system, recruiting style

-Enough of an improvement over HCTG to justify those growing pains

-Going to be the face of Liberty Football

The third point is where Bo becomes a hard no. Look at his audio tape leaks. I never want that language on our sideline.
Oh it's already been there

only reservation I have with Les Miles is he is not offensive minded enough. That's why he's no longer at LSU. He would never bring in a great QB. He was like a lot of high school coaches, in that he stuck with the running game too much. Now if he were to hire an offensive guru as OC and give him complete control of offense, then he be a good choice to come to LU.

He recruits at a high level. He has his flaws but you know he'll bring a legit defense + oline. I like Sumlin if he gets fired. Freeze will probably apply and use Liberty as redemption ala Petrino. I still like Satterfield. Long shot but he has expressed interest before and he only makes about 500k

In regards to Les "Mad Hatter" Miles:

1. Is our turf edible? Could be a game-changer for him.

2. I don't know his spiritual condition, but whether Miles, Pelini or anyone else. The first criteria should ALWAYS be are you a follower of Christ? I personally think McCaw's follow-up question to that should be how is your relationship with Christ?

If we miss on that we are not upholding the true mission of the University.

LU can grow a small patch of fescue, Bermuda. Kentucky Blue or whatever

I'm not sure #2 is a concern anymore. I think if they can say they have just heard of Jesus they are good

Purple, in response to your second statement.

Should we as Christians first and second as alumni be okay with the lack of concern in a potential future coach's walk with Christ?

Sadly, I agree with your statement due to the perceived direction of LU. It just frustrates me that we don't #1 try to find a potential future coach that loves Jesus like our HCTG. That in my opinion should be the TOP priority.

On a lighter note, enjoy the game this weekend and drink the kool-aid

I love HCTG the dude. And realistically he might be the guy going forward because of exactly what you mentioned.

I might be the minority here, but I don't necessarily expect our coach to be a preacher as well. I expect a leader that shows the fruit of the spirit, but that doesn't always mean they're preaching from the clipboard.

I want a coach that can train players to become Christian leaders.

Controversy aside, is Ian McCaw "on fire" enough to be Liberty's AD?

Would we be critical of Les Miles spiritual life if he were hired tomorrow? Is that something we should be doing?

Well I don't know how well Kool Aid tastes with what's in the Mason jar I'll be drinking from this weekend!!
Spiritual and Academic concerns will always take a back seat at LU. Now moreso than ever. Not knowing how much you have followed, I have said time and again that Gill should have been given a 20 year contract. He is, IMO, what an LU coach should be. But he and maybe 1 or 2 more will be on the hot seat this year. Their possible replacements will not be in the 'old' LU mold and the sooner that is accepted by fans the easier it will be

I've been reading this thread for a week and I just can't help myself but comment on some things...

1. I hate to burst anyone's bubble but the language on a football field regardless of what school it is, is not shall we say G rated. that goes for players and staff. I'd love to tell you a story or two about a few former coaches of ours.
2. Les miles is a long long shot, Bo the angry elf ain't happening and its not because of his leaked tapes. lol
3. to purples point, regardless of the university values etc, you can't weigh a coaches spiritual health too heavily. Are you going to require a head coach to have weekly or monthly check ins with an Athletics SLD(in theory: these don't actually exist right?) to make sure he's right in his relationship? are we going to suspend said coach if he's heard cussing on the sideline?(hint: the answer is no since every single coach in the past decade has cussed on the sideline) where do you draw that line? Good luck finding a head coach that will win games and come work here if those are the stipulations.
4. Turner Gill is our head coach. but if he were to be fired at the end of this season (which he may very well could be. because it seems everyone's expectations for this season are sky high) then lets bring in a young coordinator or assistant... oh i dunno like someone whos been here before and moved on to a P5? maybe a Brandon Streeter? just a thought.

It's a long season. It was an awesome win but one win doesn't change how underwhelming he's been up to now.
