You guys talking crap about Wachenheim and his "character issues" really have no clue what you're talking about. Unless you played for him, chances are you weren't around him much, if any, more than I was when he was on campus. He's a great football coach. Yes, he has a temper and yes, he says a bad word occasionally and yes, he may not be the best fit or biggest name, but to claim the dude has character issues is crossing the line. If we're now calling a dirty mouth while in the heat of the moment a character issue then every single one of you has just as many petty character issues as him. I don't know that he's the best fit for us as Head Football Coach but I respect Scott Wachenheim and the person that he is.

Well said, all I've heard is that he cusses and some found him abrasive, not sure how that points to "character issues". It shouldn't matter when picking a HC.

Clyde Christensen? He was in Lynchburg last year for the FCA Golf Tournament and raved about the city and LU's facilities...

Very interesting. The only concerns are that he's never been a head coach at any level and he's been in the NFL for 16 years so he may not be up to snuff on modern recruiting/practice limitations at first. Still seems like a great guy and good coach and definitely one who would demand some respect for his coaching accomplishments.

The first part of his last name should sew it up!

Do well really want to settle when it comes to Character? After all the Asa mess, and all the complaining on here about the football team not being held to the same standard? Really. Cussing is not a sign of character, and certainly not spiritual maturity. If you won't to have that whole thing about if we stop being Christian someone burn our school to the ground thing to happen then start making excuses for things like winning and money.

What's the latest? We seem to be stuck discussing who is qualified or why they are not. Has anyone seen any other cars with university stickers on them? Or better yet anyone seen jeff reaching for his checkbook with the next coach in reaching distance?

What the time table we are shooting for? I know its critical with recruiting.

I was talking about it with a friend of mine who is an Resident Director on campus and lives right next to where the Hancock Center used to be (they interact with a lot of football staff because of players being on campus) and my speculation is we're not going to see much on this, at least that can be said publicly, until after Christmas. My guess is they are going to want to have someone in place soon after that. With the coaches of bowl-eligible teams pretty much off the board until their seasons are over you wont have much to do other than speculate at this point

Expect things to start heating up Monday & Tuesday. I think everyone involved would like to see this wrapped up in the next week or so.

Reading up on him does not inspire tons of confidence. Read the same article as ballah- but do appreciate his comments about family and his desire to make a home somewhere.

Found this ironic article from Dec. 1
UA should also explore the ranks of NFL assistants, like Browns tight end coach Steve Hagen, who has 20 years of college experience, including stints as offensive coordinator at Fresno State, Nevada-Reno, San Jose State, Cal and UNLV. Hagen might not be a big name but has the league’s cachet and contacts that could help the Zips’ undrafted players land free-agent contracts, which plays well with recruits.

After spending 15 years at Youngstown State, Tressel can also remind UA that there are deserving candidates from the ranks of the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA). One who took his program from worst-to-first is Liberty’s Danny Rocco, a former assistant head coach under Al Groh at Virginia. The Flames were 1-10 the year before Rocco arrived at Liberty and have won four Big South Conference titles in six years, averaging better than 35 points per game during those four.

This guy is definitely in the running.

I'm not going to lie and say I'm completely impressed with his resume though.

I really like FIU's OC: Scott Satterfield.

FIU is playing in the Beef O' Brady's bowl against Marshall U.

Scott has 14 years of experience including jobs at FIU, Toledo, and App. St.

He coached 2 amazing quarterbacks (Richie Williams and Armanti Edwards).

He was apart of 3 national championship teams at App. St.

He is a great guy and I think he could lead LU into the next phase.

BJ -

I heard through the grape vine that Satterfield would fit perfectly with Liberty's mission (if you are talking about training student athletes to be Champion's for Christ).

Bobby would know Tommy better than anyone (he is his dad and all) and if his comment means anything. Tommy is not a serious consideration for this job. I do think there is some good smoke to the fact that a plane was headed from Lynchburg to Lawrence, KS so I wouldnt be surprised if Turner Gil (sp?) was a candidate flown into Lynchburg.
