He started off great but then couldn’t sustain it at all and fell off the cliff. On top of that, his CTE comments, the military/football comments, and the shoe selling scandal all combine for a guy I don’t want as a head coach. By all accounts he’s a great guy but I’d prefer someone else.

He should be a NO for all those who don’t want a “failed” FBS coach

Our game is under attack ... I fear that the game will be pushed so far from what we know that we won’t recognize it 10 years from now. And if it does, our country will go down, too.
I think it [the decline of football] would be the decline of our country, yes.
I don’t think it’s been proven that the game of football causes CTE. We don’t really know that. Are there chances for concussions? Of course. There are collisions. But the game is safer than it’s ever been.
For the military, I don't have the direct quote, but one of the articles covering his media day last summer said "Larry Fedora also started talking about how a member of the military told him our military is so great because so many military members played football growing up."

Fedora LOL. Why would we want any coach who was just fired? Much less one that has done a terrible job. "Carolina Football" is an oxymoron.

As for military being great because of football players:

In World War 2, General George C. Marshall said: " I want an officer for a secret and dangerous mission, I want a West Point football player"

I have been told Ian is different but I would love to see Ian prove that to be true. Until he puts his stamp on the program LU has determined is the marque program I won't believe he has been given the keys of the kingdom.

I also think basketball should be the marque program, but what do I know?

Football should be our marque program.

(along with softball) had to throw this in.

When would be a good time to fire Gill? It seems that reading some of these posts, there will never be a good time to be rid of him. Does that mean we’re stuck with him forever? Many talk about recruiting and what an outstanding recruiter he is. For someone who has gone to 1 bowl game (and lost by 18) and made the playoffs 1 time in 13 years of coaching don’t shout “great recruiter” to me. Even with all those 6-5 seasons at Liberty, he still has an overall losing record. He’s never been better than an average to below average coach. Why is Jr. and some on this board so infatuated with this guy? I just don’t get it. Maybe someone can enlighten me about this man crush for Gill.

If LU wants to appear fair then it cant’ be now - if they don’t care about outside perception - anytime they want - simple as that. If we lose to Norfolk St then it should be day after.

Paul Johnson just retired from Georgia Tech. I don't know anything about him spiritually but he's a very good option offense coach. That would seem to benefit incoming QB, Jonathan Bennett.

I think he stayed one year too long. Realized he was gonna have to take a g5 head job. Got the money he wanted. Nowhere to go but up at uncc. Also think it says jmu isnt able to go fbs in forseeable future.

I'm convinced....HCTG is not going anywhere. I could be (hope to be)wrong, but i don't think they'll get rid of him.

That's what I'm thinking. In the end I think they will keep Gill and force him to get rid of Wimbo.

Will he be willing to get rid of Wimbo? Would he rather resign than fire Wimbo? Hmmm

I hope he goes to JMU. He will still be in over his head, but it would be a good move for him. They will get someone who has transitioned to FBS, in the unlikely event they go that way.
Not sure JMU is interested in a coach who gives up 600 yards a game on defense though. But hopefully they will be.
The wild card is if we don't offer him an extension, will he stay? I still think there is at least a 50/50 chance he is gone, but who knows for sure. I was 99% sure last year and it didn't go the way I thought it would.
Interesting weekend ahead.

You bring up a great point.

If it was me and I didn't get an extension I would know my days are numbered and would look for an exit strategy. But that's just me.

While i think he stays this year, to offer him an extension THIS year would be a monumental bone headed move. Of course, as I type this I'm thinking.....

I think Kingsbury will end up in Tuscaloosa if Mike Locksley gets the Maryland job.
