So true. I want to move up as much as the next guy. I want to see the best for my school, but I don't want to sacrifice success now for simply a possibility of moving up. We continue to do that and we become less and less attractive to other conferences. We could be in the CAA in the next couple of years or even sooner but because we put all our cards on the table at the beginning of the game we completely lost any chance of that. It also risks the chance in alienating your current fan base who were promised something and now aren't getting what they thought they were getting. The same could be said of recruits. I can't remember who it was but he said on twitter that LU would be in the Big East in the next couple of years. Of course this was before the Big East football conference died, but someone filled his head with that crap. I doubt he made it up on his own. These are all little things but building up over time and make it very difficult to gain in traction in our current situation.

The thing is you can't really backtrack now, so it is a lose/lose situation for the time being.

I do not see an arrogant attitude by our administration, athletes, at all. Yes, we want to move up to the next level and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make us any better or worse than anyone else. It is no secret to anyone what our goals are. What are the recruits being told? I have no first-hand knowledge. However, I can't imagine that if I am a coach, in any sport that I am telling recruits we are going to be in Conference A, in X years. That is ignorant on so many levels and I am confident that our coaches are smart enough to not go there.
Once the decision is made to go 1A, you cannot go to another 1AA conference, the ship has sailed. First of all, no one would want us because they know we would be there until we get an invite to go to 1A. If we were to go to another 1AA conference, it would signal to 1A conferences that we may not be serious about moving up.
All we really need to do, is win a big game here and there and not lose 100% of them. Maybe only lose 50% of them for starters. And of course go to the playoffs 2 out of 3 years, which should be a given. Not because we are somehow superior human beings , but because we have superior resources and an Administration committed to our sports programs.

Do you have a time frame on that, because we haven't done that yet? I think the point is that there is an attitude that we have done all those things including hosting a Regional in baseball and making the Final Four in MBB and WBB. This is why I think Gill is the right man to lead the Football program. He has actually accomplished something at the highest level of college football. I think he understands and believes that it takes more than money to be successful and the work and sacrifice required to get there. I'm sure everyone will SAY it but do they believe it?
To quote my favorite philosopher Bob Knight: I guess these are people who want to own things, things that are the results of what someone else did in sports.

I wish I did have a time frame on that. I don't remember winning but 2 big games, (both 1A wins) that really meant something, since the program began. I can remember many, many chokes, including missing 2 consecutive extra points that would have put us in the playoffs under Coach Sam, the famous Presby debacle and several more.
I have not come across the attitude that we have accomplished a Final Four, or host a Regional in baseball. Maybe I just don't run in those circles, not sure. Maybe you are talking about celebrating all the co-championships? Personally, I wouldn't count a championship unless it is not shared and/or sent us to the playoffs. However, I also understand the athletic department celebrating things I may not agree with, because we are still a fairly new school. There has to be a balance of some kind.
I agree that Coach Gill is the right guy to have at the helm right now. He has only been here 2 years, with another coach's players. For him, or anyone, to be really successful, they need to find a way to get us over the hump of losing every big game we play. That culture needs to change. I hope it will change much quicker, than it took us to build it.

While the jury is still out I was very impressed with how coach Gill rallied the team and won out. After heart breaking loses to ODU and Coastal I thought the team may pack it in, but they performed better as the season went along. Very impressive. Next year will be huge to answer the original question.

I think that's been the sentiment all along CF...he is going into his last year (or next to last) with a mix of his players and Rocco's players. my question is will he have the same result his third year that Rocco had his third year with his players and Karcher's players

Aren't we ALL arm chair AD's on this board? I voted to keep him so I must be the 'good' kind :flamingdevil

But when we pull up to the table to celebrate the season, Some will be sippin the sweet cherry kool-aid, while others feast on crow, the important thing is we are all at the celebration table.

We need a Special Teams Coordinator (Roberts did it the past few years and did great). If we can get those things in place and Gill can trust them to actually call the game, I think we could make positive improvements.
I think this is what we're seeing more and more. Stamn has progressed a ton this year and has called a great game the past couple weeks.
