Where's the turf?

LU athletics director Jeff Barber is at least having fun with the school's FieldTurf predicament.

As of Monday evening, the installation of the new surface at Williams Stadium had not begun, mostly because the actual turf loaded up on a truck somewhere other than Lynchburg.

The crew is here ready to install the turf. They just need the turf.

The delay has left Barber just a bit antsy, considering the season opener against St. Paul's is just 22 days from today.

"I'm like a duck," he said. "All calm on the outside, but underneath the water, I'm kicking like crazy.

"People ask me how I'm sleeping. I tell them I'm sleeping like a baby ? waking up every two hours and crying."

Wow, that doesn't surprise me that Barber said something like that. It's a good way to handle things. That was awesome.

ha, he's funny. That's a good line.

but still, why is there no answer as to when it will be here? What a terrible way to run a company.

"mostly because the actual turf loaded up on a truck somewhere other than Lynchburg."

Help me out here...Where exactly is the turf? Seems like there is a word or two missing in that sentence which would clear some of that up. I just get the picture in my head of a truck sitting in some Wal-Mart parking lot with our football field in it.

That was the point ... the athletics department and the company have been going back and forth ... the turf was somewhere, but LU couldn't pinpoint where. Obviously, a frustrating situation for everyone involved.

I bet it was found in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully the crews won't take short cuts when installing the turf.

this is great news! in my business, i deal a lot with trucking companies, and some of these guys could care less about time schedules. they also have laws now about how many hours per day they can drive, bit im telling you, whoever is bringing the turf in, probably took the scenic route, and by the time they unload it, that trucker will have been fired and he/she will end at some other company stretching out another customer's lead time and making their life terrible.....my apologies to the good truck drivers that are out there.

Probably found it in a Radford parking being held for ransom.

If that's the case, we'd better have it sanitized. A VD outbreak would not look very good for our football team.

I'm gonna take the blame on this one, guys. I hijacked the truck and was attempting to install it on my own at my house. I'm just tired of mowing grass this year. I couldn't take it anymore. Fortunately for LU, my yard isn't very big and there should be plenty left to cover most of the field...

The turf'll be here
Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow
There'll be turf!
Just thinkin' about
Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow
'Til there's none!
When I'm stuck a day
That's gray,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
And Grin,
And Say,
Oh
The turf'll be here
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow!
Tomorrow!
I love ya
Tomorrow!
You're always
A day
A way!

Look for the yard w/ a giant eagle's head next to the birdbath and a Big South logo under the swingset.

It'll be tough to find since we won't recognize the new logo.
