My son is hearing from the folks at Texas A&M that it is likely that dorms will not be open for the fall semester. The expectation is for online classes across the board this fall. Is it bad for me to admit that saving money on room & board is not an altogether bad thing these days?

If any or most of these things happen (no season, shortened season, no fans, no campus students for a semester or 2) by many schools, we may find ourselves in a decent conference much quicker than most of us would've ever realized.

I believe so as well; next realignment may not be what is expected. I'd shoot for the A-10 if we get the chance for Olympic sports(leave field hockey [and possible other sports we can get in] with the Big East).

If we can handle Indy for awhile and get a few bowl games; then I see a bright future in 10-20 years.

We should not go to A10. It's basically nothing but a basketball conference of northern schools.

You don't believe this. You are FIRST to say, "who did they play?" Do you really think that the 2017 UCF Knights deserved to be in the playoffs? If so, upon what basis? Are you not the first to say that a "one or two loss" Alabama should be in the playoffs over [fill in the blank]?

Football playoffs are a tough call. In reality there is SEC champion and Clemson, then leaving 128 teams fighting for 2 spots.

OK. I am glad that you agree that "All D1 schools should NOT have the same privileges, and opportunities to compete for national championship."

For what it's worth, I read an article somewhere yesterday, that said expansion of playoffs is more likely now, because conferences will need the extra money they will bring in. I would like to think after this virus deal is over, the greedy conference commissioners should tone back on being so money hungry.
I am reminded of the conference championship games when they first came about. I have never liked them. In most conferences, one division is far better than the other.
Return NCAA to playing the game and trying to win championships, instead of playing for money.

But if you need money because of the Virus situation how do you propose they come up with the money?

I really don't understand your position on this one considering how big of an SEC/Bama fan you are. That conference and school spend more than anybody on college football and you often are fighting for them to have multiple schools in the 4 school college football playoff and then turn around and complain about things being "fair". I have been a huge supporter of the 8 team playoff format for years. You give the P5 an auto bid, the top ranked G5 a bid and 2 at larges. Will there be schools that feel like that are being snubbed? Of course, but it is the closest thing to "fair" as we will get.

But this debate isn't really about the 2020 season. Will there be a season? I think that there will be but it will look very differently than we would like. I could be wrong as I have been way more optimistic about COVID-19 then I probably should have been. It all depends on how the next couple of months go and if we don't rush things now then I think things will be fine in the fall but that is merely my opinion with very little data to back it up so take that for what it is worth (not much).

How do you have an SEC champ without a champ game? Too big, can’t play round-robin, makes divisions necessary, could have multiple unbeaten teams, need a neutral champ game to decide who is best.

What suggestions would you put forth to cut budgets? Should every school be allotted the same amount of dollars?

Didn't know where else to put this. I know the OP is specifically pointed to Cincy's men soccer, but this may get worse for universities around the nation:

Liberal arts + low student pop + small endowment = major struggles both athletically and school-wide in coming days.

There is no bigger example of blatant elitism and hypocrisy than American higher education with the obvious example of that than the NCAA, especially when it comes to football and mens basketball. I mean there's 3 different levels of Division 1 football. That said, I'd just like the NCAA to offer all D1 and equal opportunity at winning a National Championship in either of those sports, not equal money, etc. The only way to do that fairly is a minimum of a 16 team football tournament with 10 conference champs and 6 at large teams. In MBB, eliminate the First Four or at least guarantee all Conference champs a bid in the top 64. It'll never happen but to me that's the way to do it. We may be close to a 16 team football playoff, but I wouldn't be surprised if all G5 champs weren't guaranteed a bid.

I posted a radio interview discussing this in the LU to FBS Independent Mega thread not too long ago. The radio host was a Obama fan and the guest was a Okie fan. The guest actually thought it was a good idea to allow a bigger playoff like you mention. There's some other interesting things mentioned which may change conference realignment for good. It's all about money and many university's athleyic department may not survive or will cut many sports.

Your 2 favorite teams are the biggest spenders at their respective levels.

In mbb, conference champions should never be in First 4. The earned their way into the tournament. They did not need a gift from selection committee.

As for $$$$$$$$ and football, there's an old saying, no need to close barn door after the horse gets out.

When schools start cutting sports, I hope softball doesn't get cut at any school.
