I said 'with off exception'. Also I don't see business, education or history as 'easy' majors. And we offer all of those.

I didnt say they were. I was more speaking to No Fear's contention that athletes only major in something that would be seen as a "easy degree".

We're at $600M and adding to it actively rather than having it lose money like just about every other endowment out there. When considering all of this endowment talk think back to what the Chancellor said (convo I believe) where he said our financial advisors said it would be more wise to take advantage of the construction costs while they were low and invest in infrastructure rather than and endowment controlled by the donors and restricted.

Rest assured, our financial report stacks up with just about every college in America, and when compared to teams looking to make the FBS jump...its not even close. We could be applying a heavy 8 figure amount to endowment every year if need....dare I say 9? For those curious take a look at the 990....it's really really impressive.

I know Purple is just joking around, probably lighting up a couch on Christms Eve, but we don't have a single COMS major (or Sport Management) on the team. I remember last year, one of the state schools asked if we were all Religion majors, and we don't have any of those either.

Instead, our 2 varsity teams consist of majors in: software engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, pre-medicine, computer science, math, English, history, accounting, and education.

Merry Christmas!

A. Saving the sofa for our Big Bowl win. You know the ones AFTER New Years! Not before Hannaka
B. you make my point. No SMGT COMM or REL majors? No wonder you are so good. With all of your bowlers taking cake classes in Engineering, you have more time to work on your pressure pad techniques!

It seems that at the end of '09, our endowment was just over 50M, up from 7M in '08. I think you are referring to assets when you say 600M. Less the real estate the figure looks to be over 250M, which is still a tremendous amount of cash. Cash on hand without any ties is better than an endowment which is not usually a discretionary cash account that can be used to grow an athletics program. Even though the endowment is not large by any means, the 7-fold rise in one year is impressive, and I'd wager that we have more cash to spend than most schools of our size.

rogers3, Liberty's total assets went over $1 billion for the first time last month. Net assets or cash is very close to what HMO reported. And you are right, cash reserves are much better to have than endowment funds because the latter are usually restricted by the donor to only be used in certain ways. Liberty's "endowment" consists of mostly unrestricted cash reserves. All of this is public information, by the way. Standard & Poor's and Moody's either just reported all these numbers or soon will. We should all be thankful for the way God has blessed Liberty this Christmas!

I am tremendously thankful for God's blessings on Liberty. I was there when they were installing sidewalks and "duckshoes" were a must for every student. My daughter is a Jr. at Liberty now and I love all of the things happening around there. Buildings, athletics, and also the spiritual climate that still remains. Thank you LORD for smiling upon this place.
