FieldTurf for playing soccer would be nice...especially in the rain...some Pro-Football player remarked that even when it was wet he had good traction, seems like great stuff to play on...oh to be a high school or collegiate athlete today....

Ok...then I hope they make both endzones red :) I just like symmetry :)

(I'll be okay with one blue and one red...just slightly annoyed, but I'll get over it!)

I thought we were going to be cutting edge with this stuff. It seems like everybody has gotten this stuff this summer. I guess we're just keeping up. I should have put some money into Field Turf stock back in January.

Maybe a dumb question, but I have always wondered this... How easy is it to pant, re-paint the field? Seems that the "grass" and the rubber would be pretty difficult to manipulate when it comes to painting. I ask because of the far-fetched possibility of the soccer teams using Williams (and I am curious about the process).

It's not to difficult, the field turf in the Georgia Dome had to be changed 3 times in 4 days....But as for the process I don't have the answer

I would imagine it may be easier if they have a cleaning solution they can spray over the old paint which disolves it and then spray on something new.

I'm speaking from a COMPLETELY IGNORANT point of view.... Just a thought

I wondered the same thing- guess one of us could email the company and ask- though they're probably all out of the office and over at Williams getting the job done

guessing they do use some type of soluable paint that comes up readily.

LIBERTINE probably knows.

Can't speak for the Georgia Dome but, as far as I know, we don't paint it at all. The lines and customized logos are sown in. I suspect that's what's causing the delay.

If soccer ever played at Williams you could always put tape down for the lines. Isn't that what they do with lacrosse anyways?

Why wouldn't they just use Chalk lines like they do for natural grass anyway?

SCAR, I don't remember the last time I saw someone use chalk on grass. It's chalk on dirt, spray paint on grass.

False alarm this morning when a semi pulled up and parked next to the stadium for twenty minutes. Turned out to be a load of mulch for the grounds crew.

Some good-looking mulch, though.

Can we play St. Paul's on mulch?

Just do like the NFL--and hire George Toma to come out and paint the "field" green. It will at least look good from the air.

We could always play St. Paul's on the Handcock practice field...Of course you wouldn't want an incomplete pass because someone would have to run down to the train tracks to pick up the ball.

-How about the intramural fields? (stadium seating on the dorms)
-Or the band practice "field" (which happens to be a parking lot).
-We could go Oakland Raiders and head on down to the baseball field (watch out for the mound).

Go here and you can read up on how they do everything and glean from the pictures how they handle all of it...

http://www.fieldturf.com

Let's hope they don't pull a double with the soccer team using Williams, the fields on the site (mainly high schools) that have installed the turf for multi-use look less than stellar with all of the crazy lines on the field at the same time.

my highschool in washington had it, the stuff is really nice to play on, except for when you slide , cuz it burns on unprotected skin. we had all the "crazy" lines. you get used to it and when your watching a soccer game you only see the soccer lines and when watching football you only notice the football lines, unless you have really bad add

Okay for high school sports, not so much for collegiate athletics IMO. But that must have been cool, except for the burn part.
