Other teams are definitely catching up, no doubt. Saying CSU or any other Big South team can even argue they have passed us is a joke.

In my opinion I'm convinced more and more we are not FBS ready. I feel we need to be a consistent top five FCS team and we're not even a steady top 20. Let's become a top FCS program first and then talk about moving up.

At this point, other than Coastal, I agree completely.

That gap is closing though.

I also think there are steps being taken by others but I don't think they are bearing down on us like an 18 wheeler approaching a Yugo on a steep downhill mountain road as bluejacket seems to think

What on earth are you talking about? I give the other schools credit for making substantial improvements and getting better while we are atrophied. It was not long ago that CSU, Gardner-Webb, and PC were losing to VMI and struggling with D-II schools. Now, CSU is undefeated with a couple of good wins and has passed us in every national poll; Gardner-Webb got crushed by The Citadel but they also beat Wofford and Charlotte; PC beat Furman and Western Carolina. Our best win this season is either Bryant or Norfolk State. The SoCon is really, really down, but they are better than MEAC or NEC teams.

Absolutely not. Chadwell is a great fit for Charleston Southern, but I'm not sure how he would do at a bigger school with more resources and higher expectations.

I think we are FBS ready. When we get to FBS, recruiting will improve. The BSC is not a power football conference, and it's holding us back somewhat on the recruiting trail in my opinion.

So we need to be ranked 3rd in the country to be progressing?

I'd say that would certainly be a step in the right direction. Don't you?
Obviously...but should we fire every coach who doesn't get us there in a 3-4 year time frame? Again very few programs improve when they are firing coaches who consistently win their conference. Even though we have the crappy tie breaker we are consistently winning our conference.

56-14
Their schedule resembles ours from the Rocco era...

Just a few stray observations:

1. While it certainly hurt losing in the manner we did Saturday (massive understatement), we haven't been disqualified from the playoffs. Gill is 7-0 in November as Liberty Head Coach, and last year went to Charleston and demolished a Top 20 CSU team. Coastal is tough, but they're beatable (see NC A&T and Furple). We get healthy, win out, and make playoffs, FF will be clamoring for a HCTG statue on campus. Let's not get the cart before the horse - there's a lot of ball left to play!

2. Just because we lost to UR, doesn't mean we're not #FBSReady (see Georgia State). Sun Belt might not be ideal, but it's better than the Big South, and no other FCS conference is interested. That said, some National Championship banners in the Bill would be nice, but having FBS teams visit the 'burg would be fun too. Personally, I'd just like to see us WIN!

3. Question: Would a win over Appalachian be considered a signature OOC win? It would be HCTG's first over an FBS team at LU and a Sun Belt win to boot. I figure, they've already messed up our Homecoming, why not ruin App State's on Saturday? Go Flames! :football

Not my point at all. I think it leads itself to you having a much more emotionally charged "Gills not our guy " rant , after that game.

Gill is not the guy long term. One way or the other that has always been the case in my opinion.

4 to 5 years max, either he was going to move on to something bigger or better or we were going to realize he isn't that good of a coach.

It could be that I've held that opinion for a while but didn't say anything until it was confirmed by others I got to see over the weekend.

What makes you think Gills is so unorganized without a style ?

Penalites ? Graduation Rates ? Suspensions ? Felons ?

Is this what your talking about ?

Also , changing up the style and being an option team this week was a brilliant play not flying by the seat of our pants. You claim to have talked with people that say Gill runs an unorganized program, what does that mean ?

Gill is a good guy which is probably why there will be a lot of people upset when the talk of him going elsewhere really picks up.

It will turn into a Dale Layer type situation. Everybody likes Layer but he isn't the guy to take us to where we need to go, just like Turner Gill.

I have never met Gill, and I know nothing about him as a person other than hes not good at commercial reads, I just think its crazy to fire coaches after a big loss , EVERY YEAR. Like I said before, some people have fired all three of our major sports coaches in the last couple years. The AD just cant opererate on those type of guidelines.
