Ugh this whole conversation is foolish.... Ankle cuff or wrist... NFL needs the same thing with DD's, Justin Blackmans a perfect example(he needs help, but why not work through it while working your job).... secure the asset and if you want the money/free degree sign the doted line...........,

This is so dumb I cant believe we are still hamming out weather is should or should not. This is all about football and the fact as I read he could be the best player out of LU. Bottom line and I wanted to stay away from this but I would not want my daughter around someone that has been arrested 3 time in 16 months for per the jail records, burglary, domestic assault by threat, petit larceny and fleeing by foot. ( thank God it was only petit larceny. Larceny is where we draw the line I guess) April 13 underage consumption and obstruction and Nov of last year misdemeanor domestic battery and obstruction. You guys are way too young for this but let me ask you this and again I thought I would not have to say this but would you be good with dropping your little girl off and know that he lived in your apt building? I will get a little ungodly and say Hell no! if you are honest. I have three college age kids and when my wife and I drop them off I what to be sure that the University that they attend has done everything to make the environment safe. I'm not taking about making sure there are no beer, drugs etc.. that happens in a fallen world I'm talking about protecting the students from people that have a past of violent behavior.

I'll leave it to someone else to again try and explain the overall point, but my only comment will be that I think everyone wants their children to be safe where they go to school (or live off campus). I still think youre missing the point though about him

Guess you wouldn't want your daughter to hang out with Jesus and the disciples. We are not talking about this guy being your daughters roommate for goodness sakes.
As for making the Campus a safe environment, they have done a pretty good job I'd say. LU's campus is very safe.
It sounds like you want a hermetically sealed campus where everyone must pass a purity test. I hate to break it to you, but 'good little Christian kids' can come up with all manner of evil things. And quite frankly, your daughter is going to be subjected to living around and working with a lot of people you might think of as unsavory.
As for the age comment, lots of people on this board are old enough to be married AND have kids. So you get know special points for that.
Enjoy your hate.

Did Jesus die for this kid or not?

If Jesus died for him, then who are we to deny him the chance to change his life? Where else is he going to go to change his life but Liberty?

He sees LU as a chance to play football again. He sees it as a place where he can go and not have the temptations that he would have in other places. He sought out Liberty as a way to change his life. WHY would we not let him do that?

He has a year before he gets on the field - he knows that. In that year, we will ALL see how serious he is about turning his life around. Then he still has to earn a spot.

In the meantime, he's going to hear more of the Gospel than he would anywhere else he could go. He's going to SEE the Gospel in action more than he will anywhere else he could go. A year from now, this could be a kid whose life was saved, and whose SOUL is saved as well.

That's worth more to me than football. SO to answer the question --

YES WE RISK IT ALL FOR THIS KID, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT JESUS DID.

End of discussion. End of rant.

Well said PH and phoenix.

I will say this. I have a daughter. I'm am pretty overprotective father.

With all of that, I have no problem with my daughter going to school at Liberty with someone who has a record like that.

I would have no problem sending my son or my daughter to Liberty either. That said, Liberty's reputation as an institution is not at stake over this situation. It's been made abundantly clear that this is a 1-strike deal. If he even BREATHES wrong this year or next year just about he is on the first ride out of town. The school Iis handling this as they should. he will get all the help he needs and as was astutely stated by phoenix, he is going to hear more gospel over thisnext year than he will anywhere else and still be able to play football...next year.

I love how somehow there is a notion that it's up to the university to take care and protect your kids. Hopefully they know not to associate with such people. We all knew people who broke LU's rules and got in all sorts of sin. Perhaps even some of us. I knew fellow classmates and their weekend activities. I also knew that I wouldn't join them. I didn't judge them. I just stayed away from them. And that's called life.

Well we have beat this dead house to death. I really hope you guys are right. Would be great for the school. I'm getting old and when I was young I would have been just like you guys, remember I lived with a guy that spent time in prison. I would have no issue if I had read anywhere about a conversation. We all know to your point LU does not change a heart its only Christ. Bring him to LU to be good for two years ,come on that not going to happen if he has not had a change of heart. Hope I'm wrong and he will be the best story since Paul. I will be the first to say I'm wrong.

Well said. I watched Outside the Lines this weekend with a RB from Missouri. I couldnt help but think of this coversation. I think the problems come when your coaches either, ignore, or choose to do nothing, when kids have trouble off the field. In this case I trust coach Gill.

I saw the same report. Certainly paints a bad picture of Mizzou AD and university admins. But the comparison is not apples to apples, because none of Grooms' offenses are sexual in nature.

Grooms came to Liberty, repentant, asking for an opportunity to change his life. At that point, the comparison to the situation at Mizzou ceases to exist. One may question the genuineness of Grooms' request, and Liberty's coaches get to test it's validity for a year at no risk to the program. Also to be considered is the risk posed to those in the university community, but there's no reason - based on his past - to suspect that in any heinous way either.
