You've got to be kidding. It was a joke. I don't think we should go I-A in ten years, some of these guys think it'd be the greatest thing in the world if we did. Myself and Brokeback were making slight jokes in their direction.

With all of the recent progress, you'd think somebody could help us out-of-towners out with a pic or two.

Liberty takes the safe route

By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
April 26, 2006

Jeff Barber took one step on the concrete-hard artificial turf at Liberty’s Williams Stadium and quickly realized a change was needed.

One of Barber’s first tasks as Liberty’s new athletics director was to make sure the playing surface at Williams was replaced. Sometime next month, workers will begin replacing the aged turf with state of the art FieldTurf.

“It needed to be replaced,” Barber said. “It was such a huge issue for the safety of the kids. And to attract teams to come in and play here, you need a good surface to play on. That was right at the front of the wagon.”

The project will cost Liberty approximately $600,000. Barber said the money is being raised privately.

“We have most of it already,” he said.

The move to FieldTurf puts the Williams Stadium field on par with other I-AA schools in the state. James Madison and William & Mary are installing FieldTurf this summer, and Richmond is expected to move to the on-campus FieldTurf-equipped First Market Stadium for football in the next several years.

The Spiders’ soccer teams already play at First Market.

Barber said the players and coaches are “ecstatic” about the move to the softer, more pliable FieldTurf.

Football, especially, is a bruising sport to play on old-style artificial turf. Severe abrasions are commonplace on the hard carpet, and players often leave the turf with ugly, bloody scrapes.

“Whatever we put down there will be the best we can buy,” Barber said.

Barber also said Liberty’s Williams Football Operations Center is on pace to be completed by the end of July, so the school is expected to meet the goal of being able to use the building by the start of the 2006 football season.

I am too honestly. I know Dr Kerr wanted to have a bit of news like that (and the fact taht they are changing over to fied turf) as a draw for incoming freshmen interested in teh band program (you have any idea how sore people were after a performance on the turf last year or the last couple years?)

I am sure I busted you on name dropping but not sure if it was over this or not!!! HA
I am also sure it will not suprise you that I will believe it when I see it. I am not sure it said what YEAR it would be ready only what MONTH!!! I am pretty confident they can get the turf in b4 August, but the Ops Center, I am not holding my breath. IMO, November before it is FULLY completed is probably closer to the truth.!! However, I would be PLEASENTLY suprised if I was wrong!
