Could be...and as for him saying not yet on the next phase...that doesnt shock me...things change, priorities get shifted up and down the order, you reevaluate plans constantly throughout the process, so to see that the second phase is on hold isn't worth losing hope over (not saying anybody is losing hope for the record)...in short, its more of a not happening YET, than a not happening type of thing

What does he mean? Obviously he is talking about an FBS conference because he was not asked about a lateral move it was specific to FBS. So, which conference is this? Sun Belt? If so what is not ideal about it? Are they asking for too many stipulations? Would we have to drop some of our collegiate sports offerings?
One would not have to speculate too hard to imagine this probably references conversations with the WAC - it certainly is a conference exploring all options to remain viable and one that presents multiple hurdles in terms of geography, would probably require a waiver from the NCAA, etc. Further, if it were any other FBS conference, I have no doubt that our Chancellor would be creative, decisive and operate with a sense of urgency.

The difficulty with the WAC is not in terms of geography it is that it does not exist as an FBS conference anymore. We would still need to find a conference that would take our football program in. That would be even less than ideal.

The WAC has left the door open for reconstituting football in 2014 and beyond and certainly has had discussions about what that might look like. How likely that is, I don't know. I agree it's a hurdle and hope that the Sunbelt or C-USA come knocking ..

returning to our original topic...

YORK reporting that renovations have been occurring on the 2nd flr of the 'Bill and should be done by early January.

looks like "out with cubicles, in with offices" for marketing/compliance???

York can correct me, but I think when athletics first moved into the press tower it happened so quickly that there was little chance to put in permanent offices, etc. I think originally after Hancock was torn down that athletics was supposed to be in DeMoss.

how many practice fields do you need? I would think this one would be the bubble, or at least built with the intention of adding a bubble when we are able.

Need at least two outdoor (one grass one turf) plus an indoor field. Wouldn't hurt to have two grass fields so you don't tear them up as bad.

Does the stadium not count as one of those? I'm sure what you're saying is standard but it just seems a little overkill.

I think the goal is to NOT practice on the game field at all ???

sounds extreme compared to what we've been used to but I doubt many (if ANY) FBS programs do so...

wear and tear being the issue I'm assuming

Of course it's overkill we are trying to be bigtime college football.

I know of no FBS program that uses their stadium for practice. And with a hundred kids on the field and a NCAA-mandated limit on practice time (insert Rich Rod joke here), you want make sure you have plenty of fields to practice simultaneously. The bubble is primarily for inclement weather purposes. Otherwise you would use outdoor fields.

To underscore Sly's point, when I went to Oklahoma to visit my wife (my girlfriend at the time), we got to watch OU practice for a bit and theywere practicing on two fields opposite the stadium so that makes sense to have turf fields and not use the stadium field except for gameday

Remember when the home locker room was where the visitor's room is now, and the visiting team had to walk through a gravel lot where the FOC is now and sit in a little shed at half time to treat their staph infections? Good times.
