We started competing on the division 1 level back in 1988 so I wouldn't exactly call our program a "start up" at this point. Not sure what our budget was back then for football.

I feel safe saying it wasn't at the top tier of FCS where it is today.

We basically started over in 2006. Since then our entire program has changed completely in every aspect. Give it some time.

I think that the spending was there early on in our first few years of division 1 then declined when we had financial issues and cut back and that all started back in 1991. The "writing on the wall" was there early but hit us in the face in 1991 and then the problems "snowballed".

but how long has U of Deleware had the kind of budget?? We have had a increasingly larger budget over the last few years as more and more money is coming in, but it hasn't been THAT long...of course if we continue to come up short then that is another story...but in the terms of where our football program was and where it is now its come a long way and just has to get over that hump

And since the little hokie keeps posting I will talk about tech..think about their budget, think about all the money being thrown around down there and they still have yet to full get over that hump...they've been trying for years to be considered a national power and by and large have still not got there. They are a power in the region...but not nationally...sounds familiar huh?

Boy there's an understatement. I've heard coach Sam tell stories about how he had to charge hotel and restaurant bills on the road for the whole team to his personal credit card and then pray that he would eventually be reimbursed.

U of Delaware has always thrown a lot of money at football, has a big local fan base, recruits well, and gets high profile transfers. I also think that there high academic standards come into play as well as it does with William and Mary, JMU, and Richmond. We might have to spend more to get to that level but I see what you are saying.

Yea I heard that one too several years ago. Things must have been a lot worst than I thought. LU usually does a pretty good job of hiding the negatives.

I'm going to question those numbers as somehow the expenses and revenues equal each other exactly in every category.
I think that it is supposed to be that way for sports. The profit/loss would end in the main school budget
