i admit i was a no on freeze back when we were discussing all this. However after hearing him on outkick and at convo and then looking at his twitter follows. He seems contrite and his brand is def similar to LU.

My question is what else is out there. Every place he gets discussed on twitter most people say good man made a mistake praying for hkm. However theres always 1 or 2 that say he hasnt disclosed everything and hid things. Anybody else know what these people are referring to.

Ole miss also got busted for recruiting violations for that nkemdiche tunsil and treadwell haul. Would have to hear more there as well. Some of that is likely caving to pressures of competing in sec which is a character concern.

I'm going to say no. I would not take my chances, but I also would not just release him immediately. If we can find a willing coach who is a believer, has good charisma and has a record of forming winning teams, then I'd let Gill go. Thanks for the little things he did, but it's a new era and future for LU football.

After we win 2-4 games next year, I don't think we will have to worry about 2019. The sooner TG is gone, the better. I have always wanted him to succeed until last year. The unforgivable losses the last two years, gives him a ticket out of L'burg as far as I am concerned.

Look TG was given an extra life line. It was a bad year to make a change. Were going to add upward of 30 kids. That would have been very difficult with the early signing day this year. Its going to take the existing staff right up to signing day to do it. He has an opportunity to show something if he can get 5 wins or more which i highly doubt but he had that chance now. This year will be better for everyone now that weve gotten away from the immediate pain of the horrid season. One year at fbs for gill to show what he can do with everything at his disposal. For lu we will be bowl eligible the next year with a stud qb and wr in place and a full roster as wel as a further developed schedule. Much more attractive to coaches and much cheaper for the school.

Honestly if he gets the right pieces here and if wimbo could do anything defensively at all then 5 wins is doable. I personally would guess 3 to 4 but 5 is not absurd if we had a dang semblance of a defense.

We aren't bowl eligible until the 2019 season. We may have allocated all of our scholarships but to say we have a full roster is a stretch. We gave out 15 more scholarships in 2017 and didn't do the work to recruit them. This 2018 recruiting class has doubled the rated talent on the roster. That's what is going to make the difference. And that will take 3 more years to actually fill the roster with FBS talent. Gill couldn't beat FCS talent with everything at his disposal including extra scholarships players because he mismanaged it. We are capped out after this recruiting season instead of being able to duplicate the 2018 talent volume in 2019. He handicapped our roster. We won't have a full FBS roster until 2021. We won't truly compete consistently until we have the depth of an elite G5 or lower P5. Liberty loses games in the 4th quarter when big dogs rotate frest players that are as talented as our first string.

I think you may be painting too gloomy a picture. You are correct in saying that Gill's giving numerous scholarships to walk-ons created a false impression of the talent level. What we do not know is whether all of those players will be retained on scholarship. There is no obligation to do so, and if you ask me, with the exception of a few who were truly deserving, they should be grateful for whatever they got. RMK has a history of giving unused basketball schollies to walk-ons (Hiepler, Hoffman, Farquhar) but they all knew it was a one year deal. Hopefully Gill is doing the same.

Looking at the roster and crunching the numbers, it looks right now like we are losing just 10 players to graduation or transfer. Gill says we had 73 on scholarship. Subtract 10 and you have 63. That leaves 22 spots to get to the limit of 85, yet we are talking about signing 30. In order to do that, something like 8 current scholarships need to be cut. There may be more attrition we don't know about coming, but my guess is that at least some of those slots will come from walk-ons who were "promoted" last year not having their scholarships renewed.

Thats correct oldflame from what ive heard. Obviously the team isnt all fbs players but my point is that atleast were playing with a full roster so next year whoever is coaching will be signing more like 22 players instead of 30 and we will be bowl eligible. Much more attractive to new coaches if we do need to make that move.

Another question is why do some seem to suggest that there’s no person on the face of God’s green earth that could possibly qualify for the HC job at Liberty? Gill came here without any proven winning track record. So being a proven winner mustn’t be a qualification. So are we saying that being a Christian is the only qualification? Surely there is a coach somewhere other than Gill that is a Christian. I think that Gill’s time here has been nothing more than squandered time. And don’t tell me about a playoff appearance. Did he build off that? I’ll go ahead and answer that. NO! If we’re serious about winning in football I think it’s time to move on from Turner Gill. If not, I think we should pour the money into another sport and stop wasting it on mediocre.

The $$$ for a buyout of both Gill and his staff was only one factor in the decision to keep him this year. Pretty strange timing to be bringing this up. Do you honestly think we are in a position now to do anything before the end of this coming season? If there are not strong indications that the program is moving in a direction to be competitive at the FBS level this season, I think there is a good chance a change will then be made, even though he will still have a year remaining on his contract.

for whatever the reason, we did not build off that playoff appearance. Most of the other teams in playoffs that year, continued to improve, where as LU "went backwards". We beat JMU in playoffs, look where they went afterwards.

By the way, if Hugh Freeze is hired after November 30th of 2018 as a HEAD COACH then there is no penalty placed upon the University and Hugh. IF, this convocation thing was also the beginning of something more, then this is a perfect storm for Hugh Freeze and Liberty as a match.

Here are my thoughts on why:

1. This is a no-bowl year for LU. So the time-table for a firing and hiring is shorter than a year where a team goes bowling.
2. Gill's buyout will be less next year than this year.
3. We would be able to hire Freeze after the November 30th date and this date would be even further removed from his wrong-doing at Ole Miss, which goes along with the Christian perspective of letting someone prove themselves over time.
4. The homes that Gill has spoken of us being able to get into now due to FBS move will grow even larger with Hugh Freeze just because of his ties to the SEC and his win-loss column speaks volumes as well in recruiting.

Do yall have any thoughts?

By the way, I still think Jerry Jr. pushes Ian to keep Gill for the remainder of his contract and then start fresh after that.
