Its almost as if they are delaying the announcement to encourage early ticket sales...

Ok I'll take my tin foil hat off now.
Well, it's working. 103 and 107 are down to a total 9 seats available between them. Each of those sections seats about 600.

With plenty open in all other sections.

Liberty Home Football Games, ODU vs Liberty, select your seat. You can click on the reserved sections and see.

Yall may scoff at it, but 103-107 being booked means that the new East benchbacks are the only reserved seats left between the 35s for that game, a week out from kickoff. This is not including any walkup. We have not had problems with walkup. We are trying to get walkups to invest in reserved tickets and it looks like it is working overall.

But there is still a ton available in the east benchbacks.

I get you are trying to spin this positively but I really don't think things are going as well for the opening game as anybody thought they would.

My expectation are always low and even I had higher expectations.

On the Liberty podcast they interviewed someone from the ticket office and they said that they are hoping to announce some news about TV that will expand the Liberty name soon.

I hope it doesn't involve ESPN+

Usually when the Liberty hype machine starts rolling, prepared to be underwhelmed. ***All Liberty games on ESPN!

***ESPN5

Pretty sure this will be the case, after all ESPN+ has a deal with the A SUN.

The first 3 home games are already on the ESPN 3 schedule so it looks like espn+ will be avoided for now.

To clarify: ESPN+ is a paid service, separate from any other ESPN service. You don't gain access to ESPN+ via your cable/satellite service provider.

Personally - I don’t want to pay for the subscription.

From Liberty’s perspective - more people have access to ESPN3 than ESPN+ so we have the potential for more eyeballs that way.

I’ve been happy to ride the Free Train for awhile myself. I’ll accept that blessing, realizing all along that at some point it had to come to an end.

LU fans want the brand to grow. Awesome! And the growth of that brand signals a commodity that’s growing in value. For Liberty to be run correctly, it should capitalize on its valuable assets. Anything else would yield cries of poor management from many on this board - and rightly so.

So if Liberty can market it’s football broadcast rights, then it SHOULD market those rights. And if someone out there (a TV Network like ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC) puts an offer on the table to purchase those rights, can you reasonably expect them to turn around and give that programming product away for free?

Welcome to the Big Time, boys. (Carone was right - our fan base may not have been ready.)

I’m already paying $4.99/month. That’s NOTHING! And I’m already on record predicting ESPN3 will be gone within 3 years. If you track the trends, ESPN is the guinea pig for Disney. If this works - and so far indications are good - you’re going to see a model like this for a LOT of other major visual media.

ESPN+ is definitely the future. And I’ll end up paying for it eventually. But while I can, I’d rather not.

From Liberty’s perspective, I’d ask this question:

Do we make more money with more viewers on ESPN3 (a relatively free service) or from less viewers on ESPN+ (paid service with less subscribers)?

The answer to that question is what they should do.

Wait. So does this mean I can’t watch LU games on the ESPN App on my XBox?
