One great thing is the students actually show up on time before kickoff. I've been to multiple wvu games and although their student section has been 15k plus, often times they don't show up til midway through first quarter or 2nd quarter. We really are building something special. With continued success we could see another explosion of fan growth.

We had the Robertson family raising the #71 flag, sky divers, BEAUTIFUL weather, Hall of Fame inductees, The Walk (players, drum line, Sparky, free shirts!), great tailgate (friends and food), record-setting crowd, the Jokers (i even like the new group with striped pants and fuzzy hair), LOUD stadium music (something for everyone, SIU buttercup you don't have to like it all!), the L-U chant à la John Lunsford on the board is FUN, the marching band, the guy breathing fire (WAY better than the red-jacket guy), full Student Section (amazing), CFAW, Parent's Weekend, my seat's on the 50 yd line. And WE WON.

I'm always early, VERY loud, wearing red - and I stay all four quarters.

Go Flames!
Great post. !!!!!!!!

Stories like jyoung are the kind of things I wanted to see grow out of the LUnatics. Even though the group in and of itself is no more, the goal of the group has been achieved to a degree and now we see students like him getting groups together and leading the students in getting loud on the opponent side. With the Flamethrowers getting their own bugs out as well over on the home side, there is a real chance that you could see Williams Stadium in the discussion as one of the most dangerous places to play in all of FCS.

The fans and noise haven't been the main issue for several years, especially in big games. Were they perfect? Nope. Not winning the big games has been the issue.

That certainly helps as well bluejacket. We are starting to get the games that we generally lost for some reason or another. We beat Coastal down in Myrtle Beach last year, then built on that with the playoff win over JMU IN Harrisonburg (first win there since 1992) and now we add a win over a historic program in Montana, and as manson said either in this thread or another one, a win this weekend cements that we have turned the corner and can be a force to be reckoned with on the national stage

There is a GREAT song that seems custom made for us that is popular by Rachel Platten called FIght Song. It would make an excellent intro to get the crowd fired up for the second half...a second half intro type song...

If you listen to the end of the song, there's a verse...and then there's a cadence with the last chorus.

So what you do, is you play the last verse...on the lyrics,
"I might only have one match"...fire the propane flames at the top of the Operation Center.
"but I can make an explosion"...fire some fireworks into the air.

Then have the marching band drumline do that cadence in the stands.

And play the rest. Put "Hey" on the scoreboard for the students to yell at the appropriate time during the chorus.

The lyrics for the chorus are below...

Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

This is my fight song (Hey!)
Take back my life song (Hey!)
Prove I'm alright song (Hey!)
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong (I'll be strong)
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

I've still got a lot of fight left in me!

I posted a few pics on that old, archaic Facebook thing during and the game on Saturday. Today at work, I had 7 people come up to me and say that they couldn't believe what Liberty looks like. 4 of them have bashed the school in the past. 2 of those along with 2 others told me that they went online and found the game so they could watch.

This is kind of nuts.

Trying to listen to the shout out from Dan Patrick, don't have a lot of time any idea how far in to hour 3 the shout out was?

Yeah, sorry Jim. That's not going to work. While we're at it, we should definitely dump Taylor Swift. If I played that at a middle school game I'd get blasted by 14-year-old kids.

I understand that the um, more experienced among us don't like the dance songs, but this isn't really about the older crowd. Most of them are going to be sitting down regardless of what music is played. The worst possible scenario is losing the culture of crazy college kids that is rapidly growing on campus. December football will be here soon enough. You can bring your earmuffs then. :-)

By the way, did LU release any official videos from Saturday? I have a few 10-15 second clips that I shot with my phone, but they aren't anything worth posting. I'll bring the HD video camera for the next game.

Thanks...after about 10 minutes of listening to it I realized I was listening to Friday's hour 3...I found it....nice to see some national attention!!

Just not in this thread.
I was about to go down that route yesterday, but decided against it. Not the right place.

hahahahahaha - +1

I will have to say though... you don't take away popular female song artists like Taylor Swift. She's really popular with the female student base. They constitute about 55% of the resident student population I think. We need them at the games. I know my wife and my daughter both like Taylor Swift.

absolutely crazy, looks like so much fun, one thing for sure that's definitely not like going up a roller coaster and coming down. And to think that's what he wants to do for his 21st bday...SMH

R i wrote:Taylor Swift , Blank Space
[Verse 1]
Nice to meet you
Where you been?
I could show you incredible things
Magic, madness, heaven, sin
Saw you there and I thought oh my god
Look at that face, you look like my next mistake
Love's a game, wanna play
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain't it funny rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let's be friends
I'm dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I could make the bad guys good for a weekend

[Pre-Chorus]
So it's gonna be forever
Or it's gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it's over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game

[Chorus]
Cause we're young and we're reckless
We'll take this way too far
It'll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
But I got a blank space baby
And I'll write your name
Not only does the song use the phrase "oh my god", but a cursory read of the first verse and chorus imply the girl is hooking up with some guy for she just met and going "too far" with the relationship. She can show him "sin"? She apparently has done this before, too.

Not sure this is appropriate, just because it has the word Flames in it & is by TS. Just my 2 cents.

Just Googled the Rachel Platten Fight Song song. It's a "no" vote for me. It's a song about and insecure girl trying to tell herself that "she's good enough, smart enough, and dog gone it, people like me". I hope that's not the message our football team exudes.

I agree with others, it was a great atmosphere.

Aren't we always arguing about song lyrics every year?

Let's take the music nonsense to another thread (preferably off the board all together). Just be glad they don't play there songs backwards, just imagine what we might hear. smh.

The sting from not playing JMU this upcoming weekend is really starting to sink in this week, especially what would've been a Top 10 match-up. I would argue that attendance would've pushed 25,000.
