I said this is a rivalry...among discussion board fans. Of course Coastal fans are talking about us. Who else have they played this season?
I'm referring to casual fans. Discussion board fans are going to attend a game regardless of the opponent. A majority of our students are casual fans, not die-hard sport fans. A majority of the Lynchburg community are casual fans. Those groups hate Coastal about as much as they hate Presby.
When JMU comes to town, it's a different story. JMU moves the needle. JMU fans require more security, because it's a heated game. We aren't their BIGGEST rivalry obviously. But that game means much more to our general student body and our general fan base than Coastal does.
I'm a die-hard Liberty fan but I don't care about Coastal. The second we leave the Big South, I won't even keep up with them. And most of you won't either. I'll echo that for Presby, CSU, High Point...etc. This "rivalry" was invented by the athletics department because they needed a reason to keep busy. That's it.

Coastal is the only program that competes with us in the Big South. Not only that, they are the thorn in our side that has kept us from going where we want to go all too often. They've done what we want to do. It doesn't matter how it started, this is a rivalry. JMU is also a rivalry, but a different kind. If we start playing them every year, it's a different story.
Ask JMU fans where we stand. We are barely a blip on their radar. Ask Coastal fans where we stand. We are the game circled on their calendar. Rivalry.
