That is a terrible way to lose a game. A couple years ago ODU lost to Towson in the last 4 minutes by not pushing the gas on offense giving up a 4 & 29 for a touchdown, not getting an onside kick and giving up another touchdown.
Let me first say I went to Liberty and ODU so I come in peace.
Your 3rd down throw was not the best of calls, we needed every second (almost-- to win the game...although I think we still had a time out we could have used)
We got outcoached... we are a gamblin type team, but when you have such low scores take the stinking field goal. I mean we could have had 3 field goals. Left a lot of points on the field.
Our QB played terrible.... that's a tribute to your defense. I think he got frustrated with the dinks and dunks and tried to force things. He said after the game that he could have easily thrown 5 INT's. He has only looked that bad once before and that was against Maryland.

After a game like this you tend to want to eat your own and anybody that looks at you funny. I think you should be proud of your defense, stopping us over and over and over and over in the red zone. I think before tonight's game we were 35 for 36 in the red zone (89% of them being touchdowns,)

Sorry for that type of loss, put it behind you and win the conference.

Man! There are some sad folks on here today. I can understand. That was a very hard and frustrating way to lose the game. I still can't believe it really happened. Here are some thougnts.

* I enjoyed the game. It was very entertaining..... until the final 4 minutes of course.

* The defense gave up a TON of yards. But that really doesn't matter and I think it was part of the plan for what it's worth. All that mattered was how they perfromed in the Red Zone. And the defense excelled all day long. I mean ODU averages 50 a game and they had only put up 7 on us..... until.

* I would have run the ball on 3rd down at the end of the game to run more clock. But then again, I'm all conservative like that. ODU may have needed to burn a timeout or may have been a little more desperate with so little time.

* Part of me liked the play call to throw on 3rd down at the end. Liberty was playing to win the game. They were doing what got them that far. I applaud the decision..... But I still would have run the ball.

* I am a bit surprised we only put up 17 points on a BAD ODY defense. However I only predicted we'd score 24 I believe, so it wasn't too far off.

* ODU earned their victory. I don't believe we handed them the game. ODU simply executed at the end and LU was unable to finish..... a common pattern.

* Someone said there is a culture problem. I see this too. Liberty is a good and competitive football team. They just don't understand how to finish a game or win the big ones. In LU's defense, we have won an occasional big one..... I'm just being greedy.

* The season isn't over. We have the potential for a 9-3 season. That is a good season in anyone's book. The good thing is that we can say, there is not a game on the remaining schedule that LU can't or shouldn't win.

* The reason we lost is because we didn't wear all white uniforms

* Cheer up! It'll soon be time to Be Early! Be Loud! and Wear Red!! GO FLAMES!!!

For the record, I know how hard it is to win games. So 'suck it'

I always enjoy the "if you don't X, Y can't say anything about it" argument.

I, and I am sure everyone appreciates how your fan base and school received us. Tons of respect for your program. With that said, coming here and telling us you went to both schools, but are a fan of ODU probably isn't going to endear you to many of us.

Jbock, the real Pat Kelly came here and apologized for his tweet. I think that was pretty big of him, don't you?
I do. The kids passionate. He went to the place he called out and that's great. Props to him. I hope he feels free to stick around, all opinions are welcome, especially if you can defend them!

I agree. It also looks like we found an 'advocate' which is something we haven't had before.

I think it's a huge deal for him to apologize for it. That's how you're supposed to respond when you act emotionally and mess up. I've had to perfect that art form. I hope he sticks around as well.

Turner Gill was the better coach last night, he brought a great game plan. But in the end raw 757 talent and a kid from Georgia bailed the ODU staff out. We need to recruit the Tidewater area hard. I think Harry Minium and the Virginian Pilot open a few eyes down there this week. Within two years we will have the best facilities in the state of Virginia.

I understand Kelly's pain ..... Kelly we have a lot of Philly style fans here. As far as fans go, Philadelphia, arguably has the best in the NFL, but they can get down right ugly/critical when the Eagles lose. But they always show up the following week, and they love their Eagles.

GO FLAMES!

PK is a good guy, and was a real playmaker for us (I think I had him for like 5 of his 8 TDs went for 50 yards or more or something) and even was a great playmaker in high school. I think he made a very big play to come on here the way he did and own his comments and take responsibility for them and for that, my high level of respect for him grew even more.

As great a job as the Dline did overall, I have no doubt that having Bah and Davis out contributed to how gassed our guys were down the stretch. Chasing a guy like Heineke around for 4 quarters is tough enough when you have your full compliment of players to sub in and out.

I noticed comments about how we dropped 3 pick 6s. I wonder if our DBs were thinking the same way. The fact is we didn´t need to run any of those potential interceptions back for a TD to win the game. We just needed to catch the ball. What applies to an offensive receiver about needing to catch the ball before you can run with it goes doublé for defenders who don´t have the reps catching the ball their offensive counterparts do.

That's because it isn't snowing yet....

ARMYMIKE can understand this. Strategically, I think we are going in the right direction. Tactically, especially on Offense, I have concerns. It is much easier to change tactics than it is strategy.

But what do you think of our strategery?

I don't think anyone in the administration has said that.

They may only want to play teams in the state that we are recruiting against. Because of your christian admission standards we may feel that we won't have to compete with you for many recruits. Don't take this the wrong way. You guys won't take a great QB that likes to dance and party for example whereas for us if they aren't doing anything illegal and are good people and students we will still recruit them.

I think ODU would be happy playing LU every 3-4 years. We have contracts to play Vanderbilt, NC St and 3 games with VA Tech coming up.

I will say that you guys should be glad that at least Charlie Weis isn't coaching your team, Turner Gill isn't much of a step up. You guys did slow down the high-scoring ODU offense down, but still couldn't pull it out. Do you guys think that was a step forward, or are there bigger issues at hand?

Still scratching my head as to why we punted right down the middle of the field with a 10 point lead and 4 minutes to play. Dropping the pick 6 2 plays before their last TD pass was hard to watch as much as the TD pass.

I agree completely on the last sentence, Chippy. And I think that is a big reason why frustration is so high. It wasn't just one blown opportunity to close things out in the 4th quarter ... it was a slew of them. We simply need to execute down the stretch to close these things out no matter how exhausted our guys may be. And fatigue was a huge factor int he closing minutes.

Just to make everyone feel better, maybe. Imagine how you would have reacted if Gabe had lept forward just a yard and a half to catch this bat down. Didn't realize how close it came to him on that last heave. Also watched the reply and DJ got back up from getting annihilated on the punt to chase the guy all the way to the end zone. Good to see the fight and heart.

first thing they teach you about when you start to fatigue, is to lean on your technique cuz when you become fatigued you normally start doing things that you don't normally do. I trust that a lot of these guys are technically sound. You have to envision yourself making that big play, game deciding play. Bottom line is do these guys wanna be the guy that makes the big play, invites it, embraces it or do they wanna be around and hope that somebody else makes that play. There is a big difference.
