It's definitely going to be an interesting game. I loved the quote from Lang talking about how the teams who beat Stony Brook, gave SB their best game. On a similar note, all of our losses have had one thing in common: bad turnovers. I really think that if we are to have a chance on Saturday, we can't turn the ball over more than twice. SB has probably the best running back set in FCS and once they get the ball, forget getting it back. We really have to start this game strong, limit our turnovers and score touchdowns when we're in the redzone.

Pregame butterflies and I am not playing and the game is not until Saturday. How long can butterflies even live in a stomach?

Having nearly everyone healthy is a BIG deal. When was the last time we had each of our primary offensive weapons considered healthy all on the same week? It would've had to be last year.

Now if we can just get Matty B back booting FGs this Saturday ...

During his Tuesday afternoon press conference, Liberty coach Danny Rocco mentioned that Saturday’s clash with Stony Brook is “all about the matchups.” With that said, let’s explore some of those matchups.

I believe Liberty's attendance is higher just because they have a greater loyalty or following. I have found that to be true as a student and an alumni. I have gone to numerous away games in both football and basketball and the fanbase just is great all around the nation.

In regards to Stonybrook's attendance it will never be that great as college football is not a big deal on Long Island. This is not a college athletics market. Long Islanders are all about the professional sports. So I will be very surprised to see 8K fans at this game. I am hoping 3K is from the Liberty fanbase. I will most certainly be attending!!!
I don't know much about our Big South brethren, but you hit the nail on the head with Stony Brook being in a pro sports. Some school's athletic programs are the major draw in the area (I don't know enough about the Big South to know if this applies to our conference mates), and Stony Brook will always struggle matching their attendance. Don't be surprised to see a sell out on saturday, though. Maysonet and Jackolski are both sort of local celebrities. I heard last night that all of Riverhead, Maysonet's hometown, was coming to the game. There's going to be a lot of local support for this game.

Appreciate the compliments, folks. It's like it is for the players, if you can't get hyped to write about games like this, you might as well get out of the business.

FYI, I'm talking to Essington tonight and will have a story on him and how he's been an underrated stabilizing force for the SBU offense for the Friday newspaper.

Chris For PREZ!

If you keep this up, Rocco might not be the only thing we worry about losing with a successful run into the playoffs.

Speculation only!

If there was an award for outstanding achievement in FCS journalism, Lang should certainly be at or near the top of the list. Another excellent piece. I only wish I was half as good a sports writer

Chris, I noticed you only discussed the kickers in the special teams matchup. What about return and coverage teams? IMHO, having the nation's leading kickoff returner gives us an edge there.

What BJ meant to say, I'm sure, is that we have much more students than any other member of the Big South. Remember, half of our attendance (sometimes more, sometimes less) comes from the students.

many more actually not much more jbock, although you do raise a point in that we do have Id think one of the largest residential student enrollments in the conference which lends itself to having a student turnout that is as large, if not larger, than overall turnouts for other institutions

Lang's right...Jackolski can be a game breaker on special teams. I think he had an 85 yard return on the opening kickoff of the meeting last year if Im remembering correctly

Just listened to the Big South teleconference and it's so hard not getting excited for Saturday right now. We really have something that we can control at the end of the season, which is a nice change. Question for Chris Lang or anyone else that might know. GW's coach was asked a question by Matt Hogue " What was the change that allowed Stony Brook to open up the game?" and he said he didn't want to answer because he would be fined by the league. Was it officiating related and what happened?

we haven't covered kickoffs well all year and kacere doesn't get much hang time either, that could be a problem. I almsot think we should go to the sky kicks like opposing teams have used on us. I would bet SBU tries one on us after the success PC and VMI had with it.

I missed that part of the teleconference, bob, but I think pretty much everyone is puzzled by what Dickerson had to say. It wasn't necessarily officiating, from what I understand.

I started losing sleep over this game last night.

This is not a good thing.

It means youre putting WAY more on this game in your own mind than you need to...this is a big game yes, but the reason Im losing sleep at night is because my medication is wearing off and rolling over in bed hurts, or one of my roommates decided to throw objects at my door and woke me up, not because of this game. Like I said, its a big game, but at the end of the day, its a game, not armageddon and the fate of the free world depends on it.
