A train can have all the horse power in the world....but without a conductor....it's going off the tracks. We can all dream about what we might accomplish next year (done that for four years now!). Predictions mean nothing when we have nothing to show the program is going anywhere. You can say "we should/could" win that one.....there is no such thing under this coaching staff. We have proven that over and over again. Predictions are futile! Any other program would have not kept this staff this long....and if no changes are made at coordinator positions....that further proves the inability of our present coach. My apologies...there is some emotion mixed in to this post, but there is also some realism as well. I will support LU. It is not the kids fault. But i do think this will have consequences...recruits do not want to be a part of a program going nowhere.

I truly believe Ian knows the business so perhaps there is something we are not seeing. There has GOT to be SOMETHING we (I) am not seeing. I get the contract, but I don't think money is the issue...not for LU. I won't blame Barber even though he may have extended TG to far....LU can get out if LU wants to get out.

You’re not wrong. Obviously they don’t want to.

Why? you wouldn't keep going to a doctor deemed incapable...even if he is a nice guy and Christian. Is it the relationship with Jerry? if so....we will be stuck with Gill for years....

One person may think their doctor is great another may think they are a quack. I have personal experience in that!

so there are some that think TG is a good coach?????? They haven't watched what I've been seeing then. Should be plenty of available seats next year.

I think you just insulted Kotite.

Here’s the crazy thing: Jerry has likely been told by two ADs that Gill isn’t the guy moving forward and yet he still hasn’t pulled the trigger. I’m only speculating that Ian wanted to do it this year but given everything else I’ve heard, I don’t think it’s a terrible assumption. I know that Jeff wanted to make the change.

If Jerry wanted to make the move, he’d eat the contracts and make the move. We are a school that spends $20 million on tv ads, a couple more on NASCAR sponsorships, and builds $30 million dollar buildings simply because we can. We have the money. He doesn’t want to use it on this for whatever reason.

So how does Ian react to this IF he wanted to make a change? Does he look to move on to another opportunity when one comes up because he has relinquish control of decisions he should be able to make given his track record and experience? Or is he on board with this for some unknown reason?

I’ve thought about that too. Hopefully there’s enough of a reason to keep TG that IM doesn’t jump ship the first chance he gets. But if I were him and was not allowed to do the job I was hired to do it would be hard not to look elsewhere.

Not an attempt to throw you under the bus or anything, but do you have a source? There’s been so much posted in this thread that was a “definite” that I’m don’t trust anything without a legit source.
Jon's information is correct, TG will be back. Not very happy about it but..................... I am sure there will be some more information leak out, as to why.
Sounds good. Sorry if that came off wrong, just wanted to ask for sources if there were any mentionable.

I would have liked to see the administration, whether JJ or IM, make a statement attempting to settle the dust that Gill is the guy going forward instead of going about business as usual like there was never any public speculation.

I saw him walk by at the basketball game tonight & he had a frustrated/disappointed look on his face.
I was wondering about it then, but it totally makes sense if he’d just had his responsibility & input ignored by Jerry.

Then Gill4Life may not be a stretch. If it all circulates around relationship...then Gill isn't going anywhere unless he falls from grace. You can bed down this thread.

I think this will happen anyways. This is an image reclamation stop for him. LU absorbs the toxicity and gets the benefit of his expertise. But once a bigger/better school feels he is non toxic enough to bring on he will go.

What’s the point of having an AD if you won’t let him do his job? The dream of Jerry Sr. that LU becomes the evangelical version of ND and BYU will never happen as long as Jr. is trying to run the athletic department.

LU has NEVER had that. Probably never will. Although the last 2 have been as close as they’ve gotten

He may or may not be on board with the football situation, but I suspect his mood had more to do with the fact that he had just fired his volleyball coach.

In Ian's only football firing of his career, that I can find, the coach was much worse and given a few years to correct it. Ian knows what he is doing, I trust that he is making the right play, and moving the program forward. I do not buy for one second that Jerry crossed his recommendation.

My guess is Ian put out feelers, and realized that the candidates we would attract were not ones he was comfortable with. We are in transition, low scholarships , and a building phase. Are there guys that qualify and would likely do a better job than TG, probably. Are any of those guys willing to put their career on the line for it ? Doubtful.

Lets not be unrealistic, we are starting to sound like Tennessee. Why is it so hard for this fan base to understand who we are and what our history is, and the long path we have to success. We are not one great hire away from legit perennial bowl appearances.

Lets temper our expectations, and realize that what Gill is doing for the program is moving it forward. The number of starters returning is very high. The QB is the best we have had in my time following, and he is a sophomore. The recruiting has been better than we have ever seen.

I will sum it up by saying, I am not a Turner Gill apologist, but I do believe we have outrageous expectations for where this program should be performing. Our buildings are impressive, but that is one of the several factors that lead to a successful program. We have the Liberty Way, we have TRUMP Jr (in public opinion), we have zero Prestige, we are in Lynchburg. Enjoy the ride, it is going to be a very long road to the success we want.

I was thinking we needed a coaching change. I also realize I do not know what is best for the program and #InIanWeTrust.
