Not sure whether to believe these rumors or not even though these rumors are coming from pretty reliable sources. I would like to get a confirmation on these transfers through something on the website. If I had a choice I would rather get Fitzgerald since the D line was our weakness last year. Sewell would be a great addition but Brock might get screwed for playing time and that would upset quite a few good people on this board.

As long as Sewell beat Brock out for the job I dont think a ton of people would be upset. But yeah we definitely have a big need for a guy like Fitzgerald

If this turns out to be true even just getting Fitzgerald would be HUGE for LU. Stevev hit on a good point with the fact that D-line was a problem last year and getting somebody like that who potentially could contribute right away would be great. I also am waiting to see confirmation from either the athletics website or from the local fishwrap.

I heard that there is a 50% chance this may or may not happen.

If he's not in school right now then there's no way he'd be academically eligible to play right away.

Actually, I believe there are ways for it to happen. I'll leave it at that.

I'm not sure I like what you're suggesting, Sly.

In any case, my point was that the NCAA measures eligibility both by GPA and by the student-athlete's progress toward degree. The only way Fitzgerald would be eligible right away would be if he were already a semester ahead at UVa and if every single one of his classes at UVa transferred, both of which are highly unlikely.

if some of his bad grades didn't transfer though, but all his good ones did, he would be eligible, right? I don't know a whole lot about all the transfer rules

No, grades themselves don't transfer between schools. It's the number of credit hours passed that would be the issue.

BJ and Steve, there would be no way to "confirm" this stuff through any Liberty affiliated site until they are actually enrolled in the school.

If he is reasonably close to the needed number of credit hours, he can take/pass them in summer school and qualify to play this fall. More than likely any official announcement would correspond with summer school registration.

And forgive my ignorance, but he could be taking spring intensives as well.

I was not implying anything nefarious on our part regarding eligibility. I was just suggesting there are ways within the rules to accomplish some requirements.

Spring intensives are over. They have been for quite some time. There's nothing until summer school.

Also, let's look at this logically, given how most major colleges do their academics:

Fitz Fall 06: 12 credit hours
Fitz Spring 07 - 12 credit hours
Fitz Summer 07 - 3-6 credit hours
Fitz Fall 07 - 12 credit hours

Total: 39-42 credit hours

NCAA requirement is 40% of degree requirements, or 48-50 credit hours.

To even be eligible in the fall, it is likely he'd have to take 6 to 9 credit hours in the summer, assuming he took what most college football players take.

That's fine by me...if this is true you gotta dot all the i's and cross all the t's before you can say anything official

Lets hope they enroll for summer school. Wasn't that the case with Eddie Pinigus. He went to UVA camp, then found out he was being bumped out of the starting lineup, then went to summer school at LU, and was eligible to play without having to sit out a year. I am not sure grades were an issue with Eddie but maybe they are with Fitzgerald and Sewell.

Training camp is always after summer school, not during summer session.
