That sounds like Swinger material!?!?!?

Still say LU needs to play Troy on that open date!!!! They were scheduled to play UAB..
What SJ and FFG do with their wives is none of our business

While playing 3 FBS schools would be awesome in a way, it would also be a tad bit crazy.

What would be even more awesome would be beating at least 2 of them, which would be very do-able in this case. App State demolished both Georgia State and Troy last year.

Oh I agree beating 2/3 FBS would be doable, but FBS schools can do deeper in their lineups so once you factor in the potential for injuries, etc. it could also be very dangerous.

Southern Illinois is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference where they finished 6-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play in 2014. This will be the first ever meeting between Southern Illinois and Liberty.

Liberty has replaced its 9/26 home football game with JMU with a road game on the same day at Southern Illinois.

SIU - As an exile here in Egypt, I couldn't be happier about this replacement. I road tripped to ISU blue last fall, and this game is in my backyard!

From the local paper:
CARBONDALE -- The SIU football team will play a home-and-home series with defending Big South Conference champion Liberty beginning this year, the school announced earlier today.

The Salukis will host the Flames on Sept. 26 during Family Weekend and play at Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2017. It will be the first games ever between the two programs.

So the news releases from both schools say the return trip to Lynchburg is in 2019 when we already have the JMU home game at a date to be determined later. We seem to have filled up that season's OOC home schedule off of one week this fall. But that doesn't take much sting out of the month straight on the road this fall.

SIU stadium looks nice and big with bleachers around the entire thing. But it still only seats 15k? Looks like instead of building upwards they have bleachers wrapping around in the end zones. Must be cheaper than stacking them higher.

I have tons of SIU-C friends. It used to be a factory for TV sportscasters back in the day. Its main claim to fame in Illinois is its Halloween celebrations. They have a very strong FCS history and come from easily the toughest conference in the nation this past year.

Yeah, the Halloween celebrations on "the strip" (business section near campus with lots of restaurants/bars) used to get pretty wild. They tried to shut that down in the late nineties (I think) by closing the bars and limiting alcohol sales at package stores for those days. Too much property damage and the school was trying to change its image. I think the lifted the ban last year let a few bars open.
They do have a strong FCS history (undefeated 83 national champs), but have been really down for several years after Jerry Kill left for Northern Illinois (then Minnesota). Saluki stadium is just a few years old. The old McAndrew stadium it replaced was a crumbling dump. The 15,000 capacity is more than enough. They averaged about 9,000 last year.

I have some clients near Cape Girardeau so I get the New Cairo fault area every now and then. But a trip to Carbondale is too far off the beaten path for this Texan. I know we desperately wanted to land an FCS opponent to keep Homecoming on that date, but if we had to travel this fall I can live with this deal.

I just read on another board how much JMU actually paid to host, and the JMU fan actually provided documentation for his source: the JMU bid to host was over $200,000.
