I'm new to this board but I have been a Liberty football fan for a long time. I can't agree with this statement at all based on what everyone was saying about the Clifton Richardson vs Des Rice battle last year. Everyone thought that Clifton would come in and take over based off of his high school status and a good freshman year at UVA. We all wrote Des off and he did more than prove us wrong. I think when Des is healthy there is not doubt he will be the starter in the 2015 season and I think it is far to early to say that Grooms is better than them all already... Yes he played in a tougher conference and played well but he also had a better line and better overall team around him. He is obviously talented with great speed and looks like he can catch pretty well from what I've seen. However, in watching his tape it doesn't look like he breaks many tackles at all, just a speed back running through either big holes or using his speed to get around on the outside.

You're a Lynchburg/TRBC lifer aren't you? You've watched Des since he was a kid. I'm a huge fan of Des and think he's going to do great things, but Grooms was ready to go to Miami before his troubles started. It's a bad comparison between him and Richardson.

They are comparable. Grooms was ranked 85th overall in the country in 2011 and graded 81 according to ESPN. Clifton Richardson was ranked 142nd in the same class and graded 80, also according to ESPN. Grooms listed: Miami, Florida St., Kansas, Louisville, Tennessee, and VA Tech. Richardson listed: Virginia, Maryland, Miami, Tennessee, VA Tech, and WVU. Richardson also graded higher at Rivals and was nationally ranked while Grooms was not (but probably very close).

It all depends on his conditioning. Grooms should be better in shape because he was still with Marshall until recently so he can pick up right where he left off in strength and conditioning. Richardson spent the summer eating and came to us completely out of shape.

Haha I wouldn't quite go that far... I have to disagree with you though. They are very comparable. I will say I think that Grooms may be more athletic and is clearly faster than Richardson. I also wouldn't look so much into where someone was ranked or where they went after high school. How many FBS transfers has Liberty gotten that have turned out to be flops? I am a fan of Des Rice but to be honest I didn't think he could carry the load last season. He proved me wrong and with that being said it is hard for me to bet against him.

Ugh my stomach turned a little this morning when I saw that PH had commented on this Grooms kid at 2:30am... I figured something bad happened already.... Btw do we have a ankle bracelet on this kid to make sure he doesn't find his way back to WV with old friends!?!?! Maybe get dog the bounty hunter to baby sit???

HA. In the midst of a stressful 24 hours. Sleep is scarce

I'm sure that the folks in Student Conduct and Athletic Compliance have been (or will be soon) made aware of the situation with the "Zero Tolerance" policy so my guess is that while Dog may not be babysitting him, somebody will be keeping extra close tabs on what he is up to

In the end, we have to trust Coach Gill's judgement (and LUAD Jeff since he hired HCTG) and remember it's just a game, not real life (though sometimes we wish it was). Each coach and player should focus on doing the best they can and not worry about what some armchair quarterback in his momma's basement thinks. (or maybe just a couch in his dad's living room if he/she doesnt have a mom/dad or a basement)

when you get right down to it, this is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you kick the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.

I mean, I'm sure they're gonna give it 110% but they gotta stay within themselves and remember "I'm just happy to be here, and I hope I can help the ball club. I just wanna give it my best shot, and good Lord willing things will work out. You got to play ‘em one day at a time."

8) yes, I'm going to keep posting this til someone gets it

Thanks.
It may be obvious but its true. with the kind of baggage he brings in, you gotta keep an eye on him and make sure he has potentially an even deeper support structure, in order to make sure he gets the help he needs and gets his life turned around off the field.

ok let me spell it out for you BEEJAY so the rest of us don't have to be annoyed everytime we read this thread.

WE'RE PRETTY SURE THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT STAFF OF A DIVISION I ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT ARE AWARE OF THE RAMIFICATIONS FOR MISBEHAVIOR/CRIMINAL ACTIVITY BY A PROBLEM CHILD TRANSFER ON HIS LAST CHANCE.

TO WIT: IT'S VERY LIKELY THEY AREN'T CHECKING THIS BOARD FOR ADVICE FROM YOU ON THE TOPIC

Edit: the bold part should probably be a sticky since it applies to practically 100% of your posts on here

People this dude has 3 felony charges in 16 months. Have we lost our minds or is winning that important? And please don't give me the line about ministry. God changes a life not coming to LU. Has this guy said he wants to change and coming to LU even if he can't play or are we the only place that will take him? What happens when there is felony # 4 and its at LU? This is just dumb. LU should be different. I'm all about second chances but where to you draw the line? And please don't get all holy on me this is football. We're not taking about a kid coming to LU after a felony charge and got their heart right. I roomed with a guy who did that. We must have great lawyers and excellent insurance.

If you don't want people to, "get all holy on you", I suggest you go cheer for a different school. This is Liberty, it's our duty.

1. he's gone

2. at the next offense (see above)

did you read LANG's article or HCTG's quotes?

the kid doesnt set foot one on the field until he proves himself FOR A YEAR

See the bold...if he took even one snap for us this year, the NCAA would be on us like a Doberman on a raw steak, and we lose everything we potentially gain from this year

So with that we are good with him coming onto our campus and if he messes up he is gone. That makes no sense. Why bring him in? Has he come to Christ and ready to change his life? Have not read that on this board. He is coming to play FB period and keep his head down for a year. Ask some Marshall folks about him I did and wow. Go on line and look up the arrest records. Remember Paul became a Christ follower and changed his ways before he was in the fold and even then the early church was not sure about him. Not the other way around. So my last point ,if and as my friends at Marshall say WHEN he is in trouble again we are all good with that. I hope he is a FCS first team All America and LU is crowned national champs. But what does it profit if we win the whole thing and loose our soul. How about that for getting all holy.
