I said this leading into the JMU game, but I think its every bit as prevalent for this game:
jcmanson wrote:It’s put up or shut up time. No more moral victories. No more shoulda/woulda/coulda. It’s time to do it. Win. Now or never. No more excuses. I don’t care if it’s 50-0 or 7-6. Just win. That’s all that matters. If we want to be taken serious on a national FCS level, you have to win these type games.

BJ this is the game preview thread talking about what we believe the game will turn out or how things could go. Yes Lang is correct, but surgery or not this is how you react to anybody that is remotely negative. Then you respond with some ridiculous post saying you agree but......

That is what you did again and it was funny for a long time now its just kind of annoying

Let's get to the really important stuff, though.

To any SBU fans that drop by, any good restaurant recommendations in the area? Went to an Italian joint named Mama's a couple of years back and really liked it. Any good seafood options out that way?

JC - You are right there are no moral victories anymore. We have found ways to lose games we shouldn't have over the last several years but if Vegas had a line on this game we probably would be the underdog. For a game that many feel we have to win, it is going to be more of a challenge then we are used to. Yes SBU is rolling now and we have sqeaked by the last few games. We do have a tendancy to play to our competition but we will be ready to play Saturday. All the pressure is on us though. With the talent we have and the resources we have put into out program it feels like a must win game for us. I am confident the coached will have the team ready to play. As I drove by Williams Stadium on Sunday, I was thinking about playing another game here with Mike Brown on the field! Go Flames

If we get the early lead that pressure will subside. If we are playing from behind, that pressure will continue to build.

Beej, if you're on pain meds and know that they are messing with your perception and thoughts, here's an idea: don't post anything.

It'll truly be for the better of everyone. Get healthy. Get off the meds. Then post.

last thought on the matter (then Im gonna take some time off...) manson's right. If we can get off to a fast start, thatll help things for us on Saturday.

Could the restaurant have been Mamma Lombardi's? My favorite Italian place at the moment is Pie in Port Jeff. It's about a 10 minutes east of Stony Brook. Oddly, I can't think of any great local seaford options. I went to great place out on the North Fork a couple weeks ago, but that would be a bit of a trip. I'll ask around and get back to you.

I don't know if anyone has posted about this already. I just checked the weather for Stony Brook on Saturday and it's supposed to be a high of 54 and a low of 47. That could only help us right? I know some had expressed concern about a cold weather game favoring Stony Brook.

Very funny...last time I mentioned possessions I said 5 each side...I think this game could be decided in the first 4 total (2 each side). We need to start fast this game to have a chance. And now back to lurking while I get better

This game definitely could be decided by the very first 59 minutes, but it could need more than that, who knows

Great job Mr. Lang! :clapping We have one of the most knowledgeable and possibly the best beat writer in all of FCS football. I hope you know you are appreciated.

Here are a few quotes that I enjoyed from this piece.
Stony Brook Head Coach Chuck Priore wrote:“The three losses they have, I’m not so sure they shouldn’t have won every one of those games when you look at the tape from start to finish. Those other teams had to play their best to win.”
As far as the Liberty injury report goes, it’s pretty clean heading into Saturday’s game.
Rocco, meanwhile, is choosing to not repeat ad nauseum the implications of this week’s game. His players know what’s on the line, and he wants them focused specifically on the task of beating the Seawolves, and not the what-ifs involved. It’s a pretty easy task, seeing as there are no what-ifs. The loser of this game will not be going to the playoffs. All that matters is what happens on the field Saturday.

Just wondering, why does Liberty have such a higher attendance at Football (if not all other sports) then those in the big south? If we had 8K for a championship game that would be a massive let down, even over thanksgiving break, and thats the number that they are hoping for....

Is it due to the saying "build it and they will come,...to the sporting event?"

just a thought....

Its pretty easy really...Liberty even before the expansion had the biggest stadium in the conference for football. Since Coach Rocco came to town we've been able to fully utilize the capacity of our stadium and as a result, the difference has been pretty stark between us and the other football playing members of the conference, especially with the first round of expansion that we opened last year. Once all three rounds are completed, you could say that we'd be the only school in the conference with an FBS quality (and capacity) facility for football

When I enrolled at LU in august of 2004, I was an avid sports fan. Duke Basketball and Virginia Tech Football were my top collegiate alliances. I can remember sitting in Williams Stadium with about 900 other people on a scorching Saturday afternoon game watching LU suffer through a terrible season. I thought to myself, it will be fun to go to a few games, and watch some live sporting events every once in a while, but who can cheer for this? Then the last 7 years happened.

This week, coach K breaks Bob Knight’s record. I am going to the VA Tech Thursday night game. These things pale in comparison to Saturday’s game. The most exciting sporting event of my year will be spent watching MASN this Saturday on my couch. I talked with my LU roommate last night on Skype; He is an avid UNC fan. He wanted to talk UNC-DUKE basketball, and about the TECH-UNC football game this Thursday, I could not have cared less,That felt good!

I thought you were taking time off? I personally know of people who are chronic pain mess and his decision process is not impaired

When Liberty’s football schedule was released in the spring, some wondered about the timing of the Flames’ bye week, which came just before the season finale at Stony Brook.

It turned out to come at a perfect time for a banged-up Flames team that played its best football in the middle of October but slumped a bit in games nine and 10.

I believe Liberty's attendance is higher just because they have a greater loyalty or following. I have found that to be true as a student and an alumni. I have gone to numerous away games in both football and basketball and the fanbase just is great all around the nation.

In regards to Stonybrook's attendance it will never be that great as college football is not a big deal on Long Island. This is not a college athletics market. Long Islanders are all about the professional sports. So I will be very surprised to see 8K fans at this game. I am hoping 3K is from the Liberty fanbase. I will most certainly be attending!!!

My confidence in our ability to win this game Saturday continues to grow. We lost to JMU by 3 points. We lost to Lehigh by 3 points. I think we were the better team in each of those games, but stupid mistakes (penalties, missed FGs, not scoring in the red zone) cost us dearly. I don't think we'll make the same mistakes. Stony Brook is not as good as Lehigh and JMU.
