Yes we are in a lot better position that we were 6 years ago but there seems to be a pattern. I think the JMU poster hit it on the head last week when he made the comment about playing in the BSC and having room for error. Well in game like last week and this week we don't have room for error. Looking at the Rocco era what close games have we won?? Westen Carolina who out Libertyed us and Ball St who almost won that in the last minute. We can't win the close games. Either too many penalties or turnovers. Unless we are playing someone that we have way more talent, we find a way to lose. I thought some of you were crazy when you said we wouldn't lose another game after the NC State game. I don't thnk many thought we would start 1-3. After last weeks game I wasn't as frustrated as I am now. So from here we go on and win conference and make playoffs or choke again. Win the conference this game will be somewhat forgotten, if not some decisions will have to be made.

I picked us to go 1-3 ,I have not been sold on our defense the last couple of years. I don't drink the LU koolaid.

once again penalties hurt us, and we just cannot seem to get over the hump in these close games against quality opponents. I am not throwing in the towel at all and refuse to let the board negativity get to me. We will win the Big South and we will have another opportunity to make a statement against a quality opponent. We are really close and if we could just quit the stupid penalties with undisciplined play, we can be a very good team. This is a messageboard and i can appreciate all the opinions, but again, these games are history now and its time to look ahead to the rest of the season..games we will win. Do i want to win games against quality opponents? dang right i do, does it make me less of a fan, because im not negative? not at all.

Taking penalties IS usually on the coaching staff. Good teams with good coaches usually don't take many bad penalties--especially those that rely more on coaching than raw talent. Some coaches can get it done and some cannot. Players have to be taught and fear taking a penalty more than missing a play. Penalites are often a sign of lack of control and team discipline.

You speak the truth, badger74. And that is what troubles many of us the most. These past few games have shown a lack of discipline that frankly we never expected to see from any Flames unit. In my eyes, that is easily the #1 priority for the staff right now in getting the team back in control.

Didn't watch Saturday's game - won some major points with Mrs. JK37 at a local craft fair for three hours...I'M THE MAN!!

In my opinion, LU has proven over the past two seasons that it is worthy of Top 25 consideration as an FCS program. It is not Top 10. That is another step - the logical next step - that LU is finding as every other program has before them is not as easy to make as one believes when one sets out to do so. Plus, once LU set out to do so, it became harder for every other program as well - one more program doing what it takes to be Top 10 (which LU's athletic administration is absolutely doing in every way), causes all others to take notice, readjust their own tactics, and prepare for an even tougher road. Realitstically, what could LU's faithful have expected??? The programs already established as Top 10-caliber were not going to just clear a path for LU!

Calling for the head coach's proverbial head on a platter - due to back-to-back losses to top programs by a combined total of six points after the team's All-American kicker incurred injury - is indefensible judgment and total fan emotionalism.

The lack of discipline exemplified in the number of penalties is an anomaly when one considers the big picture of the past six seasons. I believe it will be corrected.

Only if LU fails to win the BSC this season should it be be concerned.

However, once LU wins the BSC and plays a top-tier opponent in the first round, it should be concerned again, but in a different way. Ask yourselves: in what way(s) over the remaining weeks of the season will the BSC schedule prepare this team to be in top shape for the first week of the playoffs?

To me, LU fans should be asking themselves this: is it possible to be a Top 10 program when a member of the Big South Conference? To me, LU is doing absolutely everything possible to prove it is possible. Time will tell. Time has certainly already shown its much harder than any of LU's fan base initially thought.

The pass was uncatchable because it went 10 yards out of bounds. The contact occurred while the ball was in the air. No one was going to catch it, other than our trainers.
Too bad about the concession stands under the visitors section not opened. I guess they didn't anticipate such a large visiting turnout. As I posted earlier, your attendance was probably larger than other PL team, other than Lafayette, when the stadium will be SRO. Good luck in winning the BS. I would think you can do barring any serious injuries to key players.
Finally, I don't know why they needed to bend the rules to play Chapman. He does more harm than good imo. Can't move. Give me a 265 lb DT with quick feet anytime.

We should put that on the front page of the site.

I missed this one (I was busy losing a disc golf tournament), but it sounds like we lost another one between the ears. And mental mistakes can kill us no matter who the opponent is.

But then I think -- I LIKE the fact that we're disappointed that this team lost by 3 to two top-15 teams. It's a sign of how far this program has progressed that we can be justifiably upset at the past two games, and can point out ways (SIMPLE ways) that this team could have (and should have) won.

So I'm happy that I'm frustrated. :?

Bottomline is we have given athletics under JB every resource and the time as well. Results are that Football has underachieved the expectations they create. We would all feel better if we were 2-2 but 1-3 can not be seen as anything but a step back. I will be interested to see how our record and Asa decision affects gate.

You forget that the fact he was trying to go from 400 lbs to 265 is what got him in trouble in the first place!

Flames have lost to #10 & #13 teams in nation by combined margin of 6 points in last 2 games. Drop to 1-3
1-3 is bad. Margin of defeat here is a positive. We all want to be WINNING these games...but the fact that we are giving ourselves a chance to win and really shooting ourselves in the foot rather than being outplayed....is a positive spin on losing (or my way of coping with defeat). But if we want to be a great team we have to play clean, well executed games against good opponents or we can forget about it. Win the conference, and these will be great learning experiences going into the playoffs.

Oh and the turnovers are killing me by MB. No excuse for coughing up the ball like that.

And the defense and special teams looked soft too for some reason (I.E the onside kick). Why can't they play as hard every game like they did for the State game?

In his defense, that final fumble came on what could turn out to be a very significant injury. Hopefully we get a better report today.

Some quotes from Lang's wrap-up blog:
It’s 6-0 in the Big South or bust. If the Flames fail to make the playoffs, the season will be considered an absolute failure, and it will be a sign that the program is regressing.

Anything less than a playoff berth, and I think the door opens for some big changes.
