Please take my word in knowing that Chancellor Falwell is fully aware of Rocco's value to LU. Rocco is aware (I would think) that dragging ECU along for a better extension isnt needed and that LU will be paying him the most they see fit/can regardless if Florida State was after him or ECU...leverage isnt needed when you have people on your side and "get it"

I have no doubt that JB and JJ understand and appreciate Rocco's value, but that doesn't mean there is an exact number for that value, and it isn't established in a vacuum. There is a salary range which would be fair and appropriate, but we would be stupid to bid against ourselves and go to the high end of the range for no reason. Everything changes with competition in a free market.

I think today's the day for Rocco. If he is indeed at the top of TH's list we'll hear something by the end of the day. If not, I don't think Rocco will be at ECU next season.

We're hearing lots of talk late Tuesday afternoon that Rocco is now at the top of the Pirates list of candidates to replace Skip Holtz, who recently left for the South Florida job...

Essentially, the WSET piece says nothing. "We're hearing lots of talk". That tells me they are reading the internet boards like we are.

And if you don't think any sane person would leverage offers for better money you should question your sanity.

My question is why does it have to be about the money? If Rocco is making an adequate amount of cash here, why would he need/want more? If he wants to leave for a major BCS head coaching job at a shot at national prominence, then by all means, that's understandable. But if he is going for the money, (not a personal attack) but that would be pretty shallow. I love DR, and love what he's done for our program. I just hope that's not his reasoning for jumpin ship.

Unless you're in some type of ministry, money is typically why you do what you do. A few are lucky enough to really love what they do, but it's about making as good a living for you and your family as possible. Lynchburg is typically not a destination spot for anyone.

WWGL (94.3 FM) in Greenville reported Jacksonville Jags Quarterbacks coach Mike Shula is on ECU's radar.

If Danny leaves, I don't see it as strictly a monitory move. If ECU makes an offer, we might or might not match it, but I'm sure we would sweeten the pot to where he would have plenty to be more than comfortable. I wouldn't begrudge Rocco wanting to coach at a higher level for a minute, and a job like ECU would be a huge step toward that. I'm holding out hope that he sees another path to that destination, which would be to build a FBS program here.

Timing is indeed a big part. As I see it, there's two sides:

1) ECU is a mid-major football program made very successful by one person, and that person has now departed. Yes, the school supports it, but how much better could it really become? You'd HAVE to improve it, or risk just being the coach who MAINTAINED what holtz built. And, I'd say its much more difficult to do in the east what Boise St. and TCU have done in the west and southwest.

2) A coach goes there and improves it, parlaying his work done there into a BCS head gig, just as Holtz has done. The school does have the 2nd-best ability to fundraise of any Div 1 school in NC, and there's a proven track record of on-field success.

"We have an assistant baseball coach that came to us in the
offseason from Liberty… I have a friend who’s wife works in the
baseball office… per the asst coach this morning, the Liberty
football coach is coming to ECU."

Sounds like one of those brothers sisters best friends dog reasons
but it makes sense to me.

If he stays here and has the success he has had and guides this program to the FBS then he will forever be remembered at Liberty. We would probably have a statue or a bust of him at or around the stadium. They may even name a road after him. There is something to be said about a coach that sticks around a program for a long time and does something special with it. That could be DR if he wants it to be. He could be LU's version of Bobby Bowde or George Welsh
