I just walked over there to see this storied patch of green. Tell your friend to put down the pipe. Ain't nothin' there but a vast flat expanse of gravel gray.

That, by itself, however, is encouraging because the dozers and rollers are gone and the auxiliary drain excavation has been filled in. It looks like we're ready to put down some rubber.
i dont know what he was talking about then... he was there for orientation

Well, it is a freshman. He was probably looking at the David's Place parking lot.

Turf will be down and ready by Aug. 5 at the latest.

There's nothing on that field besides gravel. The players I talked to said that the turf should be down by the start of camp, I guess the August 5 date is a worst case.

SJ ... the same crew that is finishing FieldTurf up at UVa will be the ones putting the new stuff down at LU. They're wrapping up work in Charlottesville today, and I think they'll start in Lynchburg Monday at the latest. The Aug. 5 date is definitely the "worst case" date.

I was told that even after the turf was done it would take a few days or a week to settle and it would not be playable for that period? anyone know for sure about that. -player

The new stuff is supposed to be delivered some time today. They estimate 4-5 days to lay it.

And I'm told it'll be ready to go the second it's installed. No "set time" is needed after it's down.

They dropped the new rug down here at Rice the other day. Once it is installed it is good to go.

Hopefully it gets there today. As of noon nothing was there, and GMTM called me at 1 and said there wasn't anything going on.

No. By Saturday the 5th would be nice but I'm not counting on it.

I was tempted to leave this blank--as there is NOTHING going on. Still a gravel parking lot out there. Anyone have a REAL update on when things will start getting laid.

There was a delay at the factory, apparently, and now they won't get started until the weekend. I've been told they'll work through the night if they have to so they can get it done. They'll be on the field by the end of next week, so I'm told.

How will the delay effect camp which starts today?

Practice actually begins tomorrow, Steve. The only effect is that the team will still practice at Hancock for the next week and a half or so. Once the field is down, they'll practice exclusively at the stadium, and then the Hancock field will become a soccer practice field.

It takes about 5 days and if you would read above, they are not going to be able to start until the weekend...

As it turns out, the factory delay is probably a good thing. It's 150 degrees in that stadium right now.
