They had an okay game, but if we play like that against Youngstown in a couple of weeks we are going to give up 50 plus points.

haha, was he at the game?

This was one of those games that looks totally different on the stat sheet than it did in person. On paper, we were clearly better than WCU, but watching the game made gave me a different feeling. If we put up 30 points, then giving up 16 would be okay. But when we don't even put up 20 we have to play better defense than we played today. If our team plays the way it played yesterday against YSU, we will not win that game.

Ken Hicks biggest problem is that he has developed a reputation. I do believe he gets watched a little closer than other players on the field. I am not saying whether the penalties are deserved or not, but referees talk amongst each and once you get a reputation you get a lot of unwanted attention. I know it is driving everyone crazy right now because he gets penalties that maybe other guys wouldn't. I tend to believe it will ease up as the season progresses .... unless he really does get out of controll. Personaly, I want a guy who plays aggressive...I just don't want him to lose a close game for me.

I was at the game. Hicks as well as Calvary did a good job against The WCU WR's. Those penalties on Hicks were a little suspect. The WCU fans by me couldn't even believe those calls. Chapmans penalty was suspect as well. The RB's seemed to be the main focus of the Defense. #50 had 16 tackles. 15 of those tackles were probably on Jennings. The holes in the OL were not there like they were last year. Tackling was much better than the first 2 games but still needs some work. I think going in to a hostile environment and coming out with a win has to be good for the teams confidence especially leading up to the trip to YSU. I came away from this game feeling that LU will look at the mistakes from the first three games and will be much more disciplined for YSU.

CHL, you do realize you just said something that was so stupid that you'd think you were channeling me for a second (even if it was meant in jest). If Chris wasnt at the game you know how much trouble he'd be in for writing all those in game blog entries and sounding like he was at the game and what not and then actually WASN'T at the game?

By the way, my favorite part of the game thread was when BJ channeled his inner chat-room goer and typed "(plays fight song)" every time something good happened.

Actually, no. I imagined driving the 11 hours round trip to Cullowhee.

Having been at the game and then reading comments from those who weren't.....i really wish i could hear Jerry Edwards thoughts on some of these calls, because that is basically what people are basing there opinions around and im curious how he painted the picture.

I was treated fine at the game, i actually expected more heckling. I got to town early and walked around a nearby town with my "lunactics" shirt on, and i told SJ this......it really did get me some pretty funny looks from the locals.

Since we are all critical here ill place blame somewhere no one has yet.....the play calling in the first half was beyond "safe" and we didn't have even a throw attempted over 15-20 yards i don't think( a planned throw at least), however we did make adjustments at the half......but in the future those adjustments need to be made before that IMHO. Also when ZT is a QB every team who has film on us KNOWS its a run, please mix something else in so teams dont' cheat towards the line.

I was just saying that in sarcasm. I just don't see how the defense was very good. We were good, but not amazing. My point was we have to play better to beat YSU. That's all I was saying!

And an 11 hour trip? Where did you come from?

Ever been to WCU? It is the drive that never ends!

Bottom line - Great win of history changing proportions.

BUT - we must play better to beat YSU!

People write articles on games that they did not attend all the time. But, I figured he was at the game. I meant that comment in a "Were you watching the same game I was" way. Maybe if you weren't so "stupid" then you would have realized what I meant there.

Key word in that sentence that would have tipped you off... "haha". That usually insinuates that there is going to be a joke or sarcasm.

If you would have read my posts from earlier you would have seen that I went to the game. It was only like 4.5 hours from Reidsville, NC. And Reidsville is 1.5 hours from Lynchburg. So from Lynchburg we are looking at a 6 - 6.5 hour drive, maybe 7 at the most.

he did, didn't he. I didn't see that before. I was wondering how far away he lived if it took him 11 hours to get there! An 11 hour round trip makes a lot more sense!

I know it was sarcasm. I was just having a little fun needling you.

What really needs to be better at Youngstown State is not the defense but the special teams and kick coverage. I can't remember a time in the last three years that LU has consistently started with such poor field position. Bolden had no chance of returning anything and LU was often starting inside its own 25. That translated to Western getting great field position on the other end after punts.

Thanks, Mo

My only thoughts on the game came from smoothie's text message updates and the recaps from Chris and the SIDs.

But in general, I'm not surprised we struggled. WCU has much greater talent than our two prior opponents combined. And factoring in the first travel of the year it set itself up as a real challenge. Its great we have a bye week before Ytown to get healthy and refocused.
