For the uninitiated.

EPA and PPA are the same thing. Projected or Expected Points Added.

The above stats lay out the points added per play by specific players.

EPA/PPA takes the Expected Points from a down and distance and subtracts it from the EP at the end of the play. A 3rd and long that is converted gives a team a fresh set of downs and better field position. A large change in EP occured. Collect enough data and you can have a general idea what usually happens in most circumstances.

Example is Buckshot last year
Pass: 0.374
Rush: -0.321

Every time Buckshot was passing the ball, it is expected that LU was adding .374 points to the board. If he ran, .321 was taken.

I think they matter to keep you out of being predictable and on when to go for it on 4th down. Beyond that the rpo makes a lot of them meaningless in football.
