It's funny how you say we were a small college at the time. What do consider a small college? It's only been 2 years since Sam was here. I know LU has grown alot, but not THAT much.
I think you're missing the gist and point of my post which was about the small college dig during the piece; It was a general comment first of all about the piece neglecting to denote which college he went to; and secondly, if Sam started in '02 the student pop was somewhere around 5500 or so which equals a small(er) [does that satisfy your inquiry] college in number. I would say that a small(er) college would be less than 10K, a medium sized college would be around 10-18K and a large college would be around 18K-25K and anything over 25K would be approaching the complex that is The Ohio State university or Virginia Tech, etc.
While there are a few Wake Forests at the Div. 1 level, most of the major schools to which the analysts are accustomed to seeing NFL talent emerge are medium sized and above and to the big time league (NFL) anything under the major colleges are considered "small." Overall, it was an inoccuous statement.
