I couldn't decide if this should go here or in Non-LU sports. Move it if your want to. But just watched a great segment about Sam Gado on CBS on Phil Simms All Iron Team. This was about NFL players making a difference on and off the field. Never heard Liberty mentioned, but it was really good. Great perspective.

I missed it as well but I had some guys at work tell me they saw it. Apparently they gave him quite a bit of time and it was very positive for Samkon.

Gado came after my LU days, so I never had the opportunity to meet him...but from what I've read and after seeing that clip, he seems like a cool dude.

The only improvement to this highlight would have been a quick LU mention as the school he went to as opposed to "a small college" (which it was at the time, but still a name drop would have been nice) and perhaps a short clip of him in college action. But overall, a very nice piece.

that always irks me.

I had a "rant" post before (not worth dredging up) comparing us to about 10 "major" schools (incl Wake and the Ivy's) - all of which LU has nearly TWICE the number of students. (bad grammar, I know)

No way LU can be considered a "small" school at this point unless you are a lazy print hack. Maybe its my Napolean complex kicking in though

"a small college"
Could also be a reference to our 1-AA status when Gado played for us.

Wow, a post with no quiz bowl reference. I'm impressed.

Well, Super, a little known fact about Gado is that he was a member of the LU Honors Program and even wrote a senior thesis, but unfortunately, Quiz Bowl at LU is only a year old, so it didn't exist on our campus when Sam was a student-athlete here.

It's funny how you say we were a small college at the time. What do consider a small college? It's only been 2 years since Sam was here. I know LU has grown alot, but not THAT much.

I think you're missing the gist and point of my post which was about the small college dig during the piece; It was a general comment first of all about the piece neglecting to denote which college he went to; and secondly, if Sam started in '02 the student pop was somewhere around 5500 or so which equals a small(er) [does that satisfy your inquiry] college in number. I would say that a small(er) college would be less than 10K, a medium sized college would be around 10-18K and a large college would be around 18K-25K and anything over 25K would be approaching the complex that is The Ohio State university or Virginia Tech, etc.

While there are a few Wake Forests at the Div. 1 level, most of the major schools to which the analysts are accustomed to seeing NFL talent emerge are medium sized and above and to the big time league (NFL) anything under the major colleges are considered "small." Overall, it was an inoccuous statement.

Alright, I got you. Yes, I understand the gist of your post. I hate when people do that, but that's the way it will be for the forseeable future.
