Was talking to a friend last night about the favorite games topic and the topic of best seasons came up. Since we've all been around for different periods of time, I thought we could do this two ways:

1) What's been your favorite season of Liberty football?

2) How would you rank the past ten years of Liberty football? As a refresher, these are the years summed up in one sentence or less:

2006: Rocco's first year
2007: First Big South championship
2008: PC WTF?
2009: Stony Brook WTF?
2010: Robert Morris WTF?
2011: Asa WTF?
2012: Gill's first year
2013: Coastal 2OT
2014: Playoffs!
2015: Woodrum WTF?

Another great topic Jon.

1) What's been your favorite season of Liberty football?
2014 playoff season, no question. It was so much fun to follow that team that season.

2) How would you rank the past ten years of Liberty football? As a refresher, these are the years summed up in one sentence or less:
It's hard to compare seasons. Each season has its own ups and downs.
This group of 4 have been my favorite:
2014: Playoffs!
2007: First Big South championship
2008: PC WTF?
2006: Rocco's first year

2011, 2012, and 2015 are at the other end of the spectrum.

1) What's been your favorite season of Liberty football?

07 by far. It was the unofficial start to the LUnatics. I went to 10 of the 11 games that year. The W&M trip is probably my favorite away game. We pulled off the Kelsey Goss prank. The Coastal win at home was a ton of fun. And we rushed the field at GWU. Definitely my favorite.

2) How would you rank the past ten years of Liberty football?

2014: Playoffs!
It was our most successful year. Has to go #1.

2008: PC WTF?
I think this was our best team of the last decade. I'm biased though. Had there been 24 teams in the playoffs we would've gotten in and made a run.

2007: First Big South championship
Your first time is always memorable.

2006: Rocco's first year
It feels weird to put this over the 09 year, but the hope we had after that season was incredible.

2009: Stony Brook WTF?
The hope we lost after this season was disheartening. It was the official end to the honeymoon and led to Asa, a coaching change, and wondering if we'd ever make the next step.

2010: Robert Morris WTF?
We could've lost to Coastal and made the playoffs had it not been for Robert freaking Morris.

2012: Gill's first year
We had a tough start but the end of the season made us really hopeful moving forward.

2013: Coastal 2OT
The Coastal, Richmond, and ODU losses were just too much. That year hurt a lot.

2011: Asa WTF?
This was the year we'd been building to and then we went through that entire debacle. It was the downfall of Rocco so it's disappointing on multiple levels.

2015: Woodrum WTF?
Can't get much worse than last year.

Has to be 2014. Finally over the hump and into the playoffs, the back-to-back victories over Coastal and JMU, and so close at Villanova to what could have been something even greater.

Best Season: 2014 with Playoff win. Can't get better than that.
Best Team: 2008 with Jennings in the backfield. That was the most balanced team I have ever seen LU put together. Great WR corp, All-American RB, consistent QB and stout defense. The Elon blow out was the culmination of frustration from what could have been the most special year in Liberty football history.

Way too many WTFs in this thread.

Great calls on both accounts, LUnpretty11. I'd throw in the 1988 season which was my last season living in Lynchburg as my secondary favorite. Our three losses that year were by a combined 5 points and included victories over UCF & Youngstown State back when the latter was a really big deal. My next door neighbor from HS was on that EIU team that beat us by a whisker and nearly taking down #2 WIU was heartbreaking. That was also back when there was a burgeoning rivalry with JMU before they flew past us years later. I recognize most on this board have a hyper-focus on just the last ten years. BUt there was some very good football at times before Coach Rocco arrived.

Its tough to choose but Id have to say 2014, with 2007 a close second

Ranking the last 10 seasons...

#1 2014
Like Jon said, you always remember your first

#2 2007
The debut of the LUnatics and probably the most fun I had in band outside of 2010...and of course our first conference championship

#3 2006
Rocco's first year really turned things around after the dismal conclusion to the Karcher Era

#4 2008
Like Jon said, probably our best team in the last 10 years

#5 2009
That run of domination at the end of the year...and to see it end the way it did up at Stony Brook...probably the closest I can recall to getting my heart ripped out as a Liberty fan

#6 2012
What Coach Gill did to basically rebuild that entire recruiting class after Rocco left and to still turn out a winning season was a Coach of the Year worthy performance

#7 2013
This one particularly for the ODU and CCU losses. ODU was my hometown team but LU has always been my #1 so I wanted to see them knock off the Monarchs...and what more needs to be said about the loss on homecoming night...

#8 2010
A season that started with so much promise after destroying St Francis at City Stadium and beat an FBS for the first time since 1989, and ended with a dominating payback win over Stony Brook, was derailed by the loss to Robert Morris and another close loss to JMU

#9 2011
Two words...Asa Chapman. Four more words...came up short...again.

#10 2015
Hard to believe that a winning season could be the worst in the last 10 years, but this one really boils down to losses at Gardner-Webb AND Monmouth, and Josh basically dragging the team down as he pursued his own goals.
