Gill Should Be Retained

No, LU should cut bait with him at the end of the year

There seem to be three main camps of fans:

1) Those who think Gill is definitely not the guy
2) Those who are unsure about him and are looking very closely at the rest of the season to make a judgement
3) Those who are unsure about him but expect him to bounce back even if our season is already done

I'd like to see how much of a downward spiral it would take for people to shift between those numbers.

This poll does not consider the impact a W or L to Coastal would have.

His record does not justify even thinking about letting him go
The way he handles discipline does not justify letting him go
The way he represents the University does not justify letting him go
He's played a tougher schedule than predecessors and kept the program at a high level.
He still has a WTF game, but so does everyone
This season has imploded. Not going to axe a coach with all the above going for him over 1 bad season

Based on your vote, 3-8 and winless in the Big South doesn't scare you off?

Not this year. Based on his past records here this year could be a an anomaly. I don't see it happening again If it does then it's time to take another look

I'm surprised at your support purple. Though I do agree. But obviously something has to change. I thought something had to change after last year. We did pick up Ron Brown which really is a huge hire.

The big question I have for a lot of LU coaches is can they do what has to be done to win. Nothing unethical. But obviously all of LU coaches are good guys and sometimes good guys have a hard time cutting someone that has been loyal to them even when they aren't cutting it at this level.

If GIll makes noticeable changes in the off season and this toilet bowl of a season never happens again then so be it. If it happens again in the next say 4 -5 years I say pull the plug immediately.
mean while we can't afford to give him any long extensions.

Being the Potentate of :flamingdevil doesn't mean I oppose all things LU. It's to take a more realistic look at things. Granted, our arch rivals are the wacky :koolaid folks. But I try to maintain intellectual integrity. A couple more seasons like this than re evaluate. But for right now let the man do his job

Speaking of koolaid folks, if we finish out 4-0 with beating a top 15 CSU team and a top 3 Coastal team and bring some $$$ to the table (in regards to bidding), is there still a chance we can be selected? We just need 7 D1 wins correct? I've seen crazier selections by the committee in the past.

So we try to buy our way in to the playoffs? That worked really well for the Sun Belt.

Every team tries to buy their way in or buy a home game. If Liberty has bottomless pockets, why not use them?

I think a downward turn by football may bring about some interesting politics on campus, i.e., some questioning of the high level of resources being attributed to athletics/football.

Btw, I'm in Purple's camp. First bad year doesn't deserve a firing. I'd have to know a lot more before it came to that.

The only way you consider it is if things go 0-4 the rest of the way and/or they're not competitive. I'm interested in Gill getting one more year simply because he's never had a team of only his own recruits before.

You might wish to look up the dictionary definition of only.

Just because we're having an off year, is no reason to fire the Coach.

What needs to happen is, someone needs to determine why we did not "come to play" against G Webb and Monmouth. LU is better than those 2 teams, and should have won big, with 2s and 3s playing the 4th quarter. Someone said that the long "road trip" has taken it's toll. I hope that's the answer.

For better or for worse, most fans look predominately at wins and losses. Gill got us to the playoffs. For most, that's a three year pass.

I voted 2-2. We beat an FBS team for the second year in a row, not to mention we handled Montana as well. Gill needs to make some adjustments to his staff, but it is critical for him to beat KSU and Presby. It would be one thing if our team was plagued by injuries, but we're not. We've got a returning QB, one of the best kickers in college football, but its obvious we need to change things up at running back and the secondary.

Didn't he let the former WR coach go, which was unpopular at the time, he was the one who groomed Petey, faults or no faults to where he is now. So you want to say that you don't think that was a tough decision. And are you saying Ron Brown is huge because of what, where he came from or what he is standing for. Remember this Nebraska isn't known to be some great WR haven, so I am just wondering.

I've left it open so people can change their minds, but I definitely anticipated less tolerance for 3-8.

I'm not surprised Talk of letting him go regardless is just flat out stupid with no basis in reality. He has 1 post season win on a National Level which puts him on par with WBB and Baseball.
No one will be happy if we lose out, which I don't think will happen. But good grief, looking at his body of work here at LU most certainly rates this guy getting the benefit of the doubt. Now if he strings a couple of these together in a row, that will obviously change the equation
