Now onto probably the most loaded position among the skill players as we take a look at the team following spring football:

Players Lost

Kevin Grooms (left program)
Joshua Smith 4 Carries 5 Yards 0 TD (left program)

Grooms, a transfer from C-USA Marshall, practiced with the team in the fall, but left the program without ever taking a snap in a game for the Red, White and Navy Blue. Here is hoping that he can get his house in order and have a successful career in whatever he works at.

Smith, who was signed along with Macon in 2013, left the program following the 2014 season with no explanation given publicly. (any word on what happened there Manson?)

Players Returning

DJ Abnar 292 Rushes 1298 Yards 15 TD (2014 Big South All Conference First Team)
Todd Macon 61 Rushes 266 Yards 3 TD
Austin Kaigler 9 Rushes 41 Yards 0 TD
Carrington Mosley 5 Rushes 31 Yards 0 TD
Desmond Rice No 2014 Stats (Redshirted due to injury)

Des Rice came back following recovery from a knee injury that kept him out for the 2015 and showed no ill effects, going for a long TD in the spring game off a swing pass. DJ Abnar and Todd Macon were the other two back to see significant carries in 2014 and probably will see more of the same as they probably will be the three to split most of the time in the backfield in 2015. Kaigler and Mosley will probably get garbage time carries, but I am a bit concerned if we see injuries, much like we saw in 2014 when Rice went down and then Macon missed some time during the regular season with injuries of his own. the Flames did sign two RBs in Denvre Daniels (although he is more of a flex, being signed as a RB/WR) and Heritage High School product Frank Hickson, Jr. (Frankie) who will both probably be redshirted and prepare to enter the fray in the spring of 2016.

Anything I missed newsies?

I would not be so sure about Daniels and/or Hickson being redshirted. We are looking to upgrade our Kick and Punt returns, and both are possible options. The way things are done now, with players staying in town and taking summer school courses, graduating in 4 years is really not hard. If a Freshman can make us better in some aspect, there is no real reason not to play him.
