Can someone for the life of me pls tell me what is wrong with our special teams.

I see that last game we had a 16 yd per KOR avg = freaking awful

the Punt Returns avg is even worse with a ZERO.

I am sure we have to be able to put someone back deep that can get over a 20 yd per return avg
and on PR we have to have someone that can get us more than a paultry 2 yds per return. All we do is seem to just be back there to call fair catch

That my friends is the third and probably most overlooked part of our team that has cost us at the most inopportune times. I know these are kids but come on something has to give when it comes to our talent evaluations in these spots. That in itself has been a reason we have lost some games, bad decisions, leading to bad field position, leading to either conservative/bad play calling to more bad decision making.(ala Saturday). We decided to not field a punt that cost us another 15 yds, ball was not even close to going into the endzone and then we throw a pick which puts them on short field.

My biggest problem with the punt return game is that we are NOT makign fair catches. We keep allowing klousy punts to bounce and roll for an additional 20 yards.

As for kick returns, the guys that make the most sense can't seem to hold onto the ball.

The punt returners could use an extra hour or so with the JUGS machines...work on ball tracking

I think our return game has improved as the year has progressed. Parker was a nightmare. Jalloh has looked well on kick returns, since replacing Brown. He was pretty shifty on kickoff returns against CSU, almost broke a few. Dakota Kelly is an improvement over Parker on punt returns (6.6 yard average to 2.3). Coastal's punt returner averages 5.3 yards per return, for comparison. IMO, punt returns just don't seem to be as significant in college football as they used to be. It doesn't help that most Big South punters usually don't out punt their coverage. CSU's two line drive rugby punts were difficult and risky to field. The cameraman couldn't even keep track of them.

Please tell me you are joking, when you say this. Barely is he an improvement when you look at the games when they are both back deep it looks like they are setting up a return, when Kelly is back solo looks like 9/10 its a fair catch. I see you tried to hit me with a comparison but didn't mention that the returner from CSU avgs 13.8 and MU guy has 6.7 so yes we really do suck at the return game. IMO, we should be able to get at least 10 per return. On KOR we don't even have enough returns to qualify for league status. But trust me it doesn't look pretty or effective to watch. Bottom line it needs to be better, but I do know this over the last cpl years the return game is getting worse and the numbers reflect it
